Lions CB Takes Aim at Patrick Mahomes Ahead of Detroit’s SNF Matchup vs. Chiefs

Ahead of the Week 6 Sunday Night Football clash between Detroit and Kansas City, one of the Lions' defenders took aim at QB Patrick Mahomes.

Despite Kansas City’s surprising 2-3 start to the 2025 season, Sunday’s primetime matchup between the Chiefs and the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions is one of the most anticipated in this week’s slate.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had to play superhero in the team’s first few weeks, willing them to victory over the Giants and Ravens. Sunday Night Football won’t be a cake walk, though. Detroit’s defense is hungry to pick the three-time Super Bowl winner off, and prove that they are one of the best units in the league.

Detroit Lions Defender Terrion Arnold Taunts Patrick Mahomes on Social Media

Hours before the Week 6 edition of Sunday Night Football between the Chiefs and the Lions face off in Arrowhead Stadium, Detroit corner Terrion Arnold took to social media to taunt the quarterback he would be facing.

In a meme paying homage to WWE’s Undertaker, Lions HC Dan Campbell is eerily standing behind an unaware Mahomes, signaling that the Lions were about to shock Kansas City.

Arnold and the Lions have a reason to be confident. Through five weeks, the 4-1 squad has earned an impressive fourth-ranked 81.9 (B-) Defense Impact Score. As for the Arnold, the Alabama product has amassed a 69.9 (D+) CB Impact Score and three pass breakups.

One of Arnold’s blemishes, though, has been his penalities. Through five games, the second-year defender has drawn six flags.

Regardless, the Lions’ defense as a whole has been impressive. Detroit has picked off opposing quarterbacks six times, six forced fumbles, 22 tackles for a loss, and 31 quarterback hits. So, it’s safe to say that Mahomes must be careful with the ball.

As for the Chiefs, 2025 has been rocky. A season-opening loss, followed by a defeat to the Eagles, resulted in an unprecedented 0-2 start for Mahomes. Through five games, he is the team’s leading rusher with 190 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries.

Kansas City’s receiving corps has struggled — with Tyquan Thornton leading the team with 272 yards during Xavier Worthy’s unexpected absence.

Currently listed as a 2.5-point home favorite, Kansas City is expected to be able to hold onto the ball enough to secure a victory, which for Kansas City would be massive. While the team has beaten New York and Baltimore, the Giants were still starting Russell Wilson, and Baltimore had a healthy Lamar Jackson, so this would be a signature win of sorts.

For Detroit, this would continue their early domination. Already, they have taken down the Chicago Bears, the Baltimore Ravens, the Cleveland Browns, and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kickoff for Sunday Night Football on NBC is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.
