Marvin Harrison Jr. found himself in the spotlight during the Arizona Cardinals’ fifth day of training camp, though for the wrong reasons. After the wide receiver endured a difficult practice, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho offered a blunt reality check regarding his recent struggles.

With every team now in training camp, players have a chance to reset ahead of the new season. That opportunity is especially important for Harrison after an underwhelming season that fell short of expectations.
Harrison managed 608 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 41 catches in 12 games last season. Drops became a big issue throughout the year, and he finished No. 42 in the PFN WR Impact rankings with a 73.7 grade.
Those concerns resurfaced early in training camp as several clips circulated online showing Harrison dropping catchable passes from quarterback Jacoby Brissett. His teammates immediately rallied around the young receiver to offer encouragement after each drop.
Meanwhile, Acho spoke on the topic on the “Speakeasy” podcast on Wednesday. He warned Harrison that expectations remain sky-high, especially after teammate Michael Wilson appeared to have the stronger practice.

“I won’t call Marvin Harrison a bust today, but the rest of the world is gonna call him a bust tomorrow if he doesn’t get right,” Acho said. “You cannot let a third-round receiver that played at Stanford outduel a first-round top 10 receiver that was the man at the Ohio State University, and the last name and the first name is that of an all-time great, Marvin Harrison Sr.”
“I will not call Marvin Harrison Jr. a bust, but I promise you, those individuals rallying around Glendale, Arizona… Oh Marvin Harrison, you got about 100 days left until they put that bust title on your name,” Acho added.

Arizona selected Harrison with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, making him the first wide receiver drafted that high since Amari Cooper went No. 4 in 2015. He was seen as the top receiver prospect in his class following a stellar career at Ohio State, and entered the league with enormous expectations.
Harrison flashed his elite potential during his rookie season, finishing with 885 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns on 62 receptions. However, after a poor second season and a shaky start to training camp, Harrison is now facing huge pressure to rediscover his early form.
Arizona’s passing attack has not always put its receivers in the best position to succeed, but Wilson proved last season that strong production is still possible. Wilson posted career highs with 78 receptions, 1,006 receiving yards, and 7 touchdowns. It sparked a discussion about whether he could play an even bigger role in head coach Mike LaFleur’s offense this year.
However, Harrison has plenty of time to change the narrative. LaFleur even publicly commended Harrison for shaking off early drops during camp, which was followed by reports of a strong bounce-back practice on Day 6.
