On Sunday, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco has the opportunity to do something unprecedented in the NFL. The 40-year signal-caller, who won Super Bowl XLVII with Baltimore in 2012, is now with the Cincinnati Bengals after beginning the season under center for the Cleveland Browns.
While trades do occur like this throughout the NFL season, Flacco could add a very impressive piece of history to his resume with a win.
Joe Flacco Has a Shot at NFL History Sunday with Win Over Green Bay
As reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter on Sunday morning, if Flacco leads the Bengals to victory over the Packers, he will be the first QB in history to beat the same team while playing for different franchises in the same season.
“No quarterback in the Super Bowl era ever has started and won against the same opponent while playing for different teams in the same season,” Schefter wrote on X. “Joe Flacco has a chance to become the first today. He started for the Browns and beat the Packers in Week 3, and now faces Green Bay in his first start for the Bengals today.”

Earlier this season, in Week 3, the journeyman passer led the struggling Cleveland Browns to an upset 13-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Today, Sunday, he’ll have another shot at them when the two teams kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET on certain CBS stations.
Through four games — all with Cleveland — in the 2025 NFL season, Flacco is ranked as the 35th-best quarterback in the league based on PFSN’s Quarterback Impact metric. He has registered a 53.7 QB Impact Score and has been graded “F.” Stats-wise, he has completed just 93 passes for 815 yards and just two touchdowns to six interceptions.

While Flacco struggled with Cleveland, part of the blame can be attributed to the team around him. The de facto starting quarterback for much of the season so far, Flacco was starting over rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
As far as weapons go, rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was a solid addition, but he missed the start of the season and didn’t begin to get going until Flacco was close to being benched. Receiving options were also hard to come by — the leading pass catcher in Cleveland so far is receiver Jerry Jeudy, who has caught 15 passes for just 197 yards.
Flacco’s quarterbacking life might not get much easier in Cincinnati. While he has better options in superstar Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bengals have surprisngly been the second-worst offense in the league based on PFSN’s Offense Impact metric.
Currently listed as a 13.5-point home favorite, Green Bay looks like a contender this season. While the team was already supposed to be good, their defensive front got that much better before the season started with the acquisition of EDGE Micah Parsons.
While the star defender didn’t register a sack in his first meeting with Flacco, Parsons has stated that he would love to do so today against Cincy. Flacco is one of just a small group of quarterbacks that Parsons has not brought to the ground.
