The New York Jets’ season has not gone as planned. After hiring head coach Aaron Glenn and signing Justin Fields over the offseason, all eyes were on the Jets to take a leap.
While the Aaron Rodgers experiment failed in New York, the hope was that this young team could compete for a playoff spot this season. However, New York is currently 1-7 and just traded away Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts in a shocking move that signals the team is looking ahead to the future.
Are the Jets done dealing or could we also see them complete a trade for Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders? One analyst predicts that New York could be the perfect trade destination for Deion Sanders’ son.
Jets Floated As Perfect Trade Destination for Browns QB Shedeur Sanders
The Jets currently have the fourth-worst offense in the NFL with a 67.0 grade in PFSN’s Offense Impact metric. That is due in large part to the struggles of Fields, who is the 29th-ranked QB on the season in PFSN’s QB Impact metric, with a grade of 69.7 (which puts him behind Carson Wentz, Michael Penix Jr., and Marcus Mariota among others).
While many people expect the Jets to select a quarterback early in the 2026 NFL Draft, what if they decide to make a trade for Sanders instead? Sanders is a low-risk, high-reward acquisition who could create excitement for the remainder of the season and beyond.
If he struggles, New York replaces him with a top draft pick. But if he shows the flashes that we saw in the preseason and can start realizing his full potential, perhaps New York finds a franchise QB and can use their top draft pick to fill other holes on their roster. Also, not every QB is capable of dealing with the bright lights and scrutiny that comes with playing in New York, but Sanders certainly seems like he’s built for that.
PFSN’s Ayden Stroupe recently identified the Jets as an intriguing landing spot for Sanders if the Browns decide to trade him prior to today’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.
“The New York Jets’ season has been disastrous, and much of the blame falls on the offense. The Jets took a gamble on Justin Fields in free agency this past offseason, but the experiment has failed. From benching Fields to owner Woody Johnson’s criticism, the organization already seems ready to move on.
“With the Jets expected to hold the top pick in the upcoming draft, many expect them to pursue a quarterback. However, trading for Sanders could provide an alternative route. Sanders’ arm talent and improvisation ability could fit well in an offense that has struggled to find stability for years. The Jets have the draft capital to make it happen. If the Browns are willing to deal, the Jets could come up with a package Cleveland likes and give Sanders a chance to revive his trajectory in a major market.”

Given that the Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round, it may only take a fourth-round pick for Cleveland to part ways with him and view the transaction as a solid return on their investment.
The Browns refuse to start Sanders even though Dillon Gabriel has struggled since the team traded their previous starter, veteran Joe Flacco. Fans and media are clamoring for Sanders to play and questioning if there’s some kind of tension or lack of trust between Sanders and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.
As the rumor mill continues to churn, it will be interesting to see if the Jets or some other team try to make a move for Sanders prior to today’s trade deadline.
