The New York Jets put up a fight against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12, but a 23-10 loss dropped them to a rough 2-9 record. While the scoreboard is ugly, the bigger concern sits on the sidelines.
The offense simply isn’t the same without Garrett Wilson, and fans are starting to wonder if they’ve seen the last of their superstar receiver for the 2025 season.
Will Garrett Wilson Return From Injury This Season?
Wilson’s knee injury issues started back in Week 6 during the London game against the Denver Broncos. He managed just three catches for 13 yards before getting hurt. That knock forced him to miss the next two matchups against the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals.
The Jets actually managed a 39-38 win over Cincy, their first victory of the year, without him. The Week 9 bye week gave him extra rest, which looked like it might be enough.
It wasn’t. He suited up for the Week 10 win over the Cleveland Browns but didn’t look right. The team won 27-20, but Wilson didn’t catch any of his three targets before re-injuring the same knee in the third quarter.
That setback was the final straw for the medical staff. They placed him on injured reserve before the Week 11 clash with the New England Patriots. By rule, the earliest he can step back onto the field is Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Head coach Aaron Glenn believes Wilson will suit up again this year despite the long layoff. When healthy, Wilson has been solid, racking up 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
Those numbers look even better when you realize he put them up in essentially five healthy games. Despite the missed time, he sits 56th in PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact rankings with a 72.3 impact score and a C- grade.
The situation around him is a mess, though. The Jets are 2-9 and stuck at the bottom of the AFC East during Glenn’s first season. The metrics back up the eye test. The unit ranks 28th in PFSN’s Offensive Impact metrics, while its defense fares slightly better, ranking 21st in PFSN’s Defensive Impact metrics.
Even if they aren’t mathematically eliminated yet, the playoffs are a pipe dream. Bringing Wilson back to risk a third injury to the same knee seems like a gamble with no real reward. With the season effectively over, the smart move might be shutting him down for good.
