Allan Lazard is no longer part of the Jets’ plans as the team makes another late-season roster move. The decision wasn’t just about what happened on Sundays, either, according to a report that shed light on behind-the-scenes issues.
New York Jets Part Ways With Allan Lazard Amid Ongoing Offensive Struggles
The team released wide receiver Lazard, and Jets reporter Connor Hughes provided some details as to why the team made the move. So far in 2025, Lazard has played in 10 games with two starts. The veteran has just 10 catches for 70 yards and one touchdown, which would be by far his least productive season since his rookie campaign in 2018.
Hughes reacted to the news of Lazard’s release by providing some behind-the-scenes details. For example, according to Hughes, Lazard had “questionable practice habits” in addition to poor field performance.
“Lazard did not perform well on the field, had questionable practice habits, and rubbed some teammates the wrong way with way he acted once Aaron Rodgers arrived,” Hughes explained. “Stunned he was with team this long.”

Lazard first joined the Jets ahead of the 2023 season. That was the same offseason the Jets brought in the aforementioned Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers and Lazard spent five seasons together in Green Bay, and it was thought that Rodgers wanted the pass-catcher in New York.
In 2023, Lazard caught 23 passes for 311 yards and one score. It was a down season for the offense as a whole after Rodgers went down with a season-ending injury in the first game.

In 2024, Lazard performed better, ending with 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns. However, Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of the 2025 season, and Lazard found himself being floated in trade rumors as a result. Now that Lazard is a free agent, it will be interesting to see if the receiver-needy Steelers come calling.
The Jets are incredibly thin at the wide receiver position. Star wideout Garrett Wilson and solid veteran Josh Reynolds are both on injured reserve, and now Lazard is a free agent. That leaves John Metchie III, Adonai Mitchell, and Isaiah Williams as the team’s top options at the position.
PFSN’s WR Impact ranking gives Mitchell a 67.3 grade this season, while Metchie has a 66.4 grade. Wilson still leads the team in receiving yards, and he’s only played in eight games. PFSN’s Offense Impact ranking gives the Jets’ unit a 62.4 overall grade, which ranks 29th in the league.
The Jets will end their season with games against the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, and Buffalo Bills.
