The New York Giants’ chaotic season took another turn this week. On Sunday, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart left the game with a concussion, and just a day later, head coach Brian Daboll was fired. Now, with Week 11 approaching, the Giants are left searching for answers, including whether their young QB will be cleared to play.
When did Jaxson Dart Suffer a Concussion?
With 5:15 remaining in the third quarter, the Giants called a QB keeper that mirrored an earlier rushing score by Dart. However, this time around, the play ended disastrously. Dart lost control of the ball as he went to the ground, hitting his head in the process and fumbling the football.
Surprisingly, despite the blow, Dart stayed in the game when the Giants regained possession, quarterbacking two more plays before the end of the quarter. During the next break, he was taken to the medical tent and later walked off to the locker room with his head down. He was officially ruled out with a concussion.
Russell Wilson took over for the remainder of the game, but the Giants fell 24‑20, getting outscored 14‑3 in the fourth quarter.
Dart’s Status for Week 11
Unfortunately for New York, there are plenty of reasons to believe Jaxson Dart could miss this week’s matchup against Green Bay.
According to NFL reporter Ari Meirov, the rookie quarterback has been “evaluated for a concussion four times,” “taken 75+ hits,” and “leads all QBs with 25 designed runs, despite not starting until Week 4.” Meirov also noted that Dart has been dealing with lingering hamstring and ankle issues.

At this point, the rookie may just need a breather. The Giants face the Packers in Week 11, the Lions in Week 12, and the Patriots in Week 13 before finally getting a bye in Week 14. Sitting Dart for the next few weeks wouldn’t be out of the question.
Still, Dart is a competitor. He wants to be on the field, and if he’s cleared, he’ll do everything he can to play.
First, though, he has to complete the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol, which includes rest, light workouts, non-contact drills, and clearance from both team doctors and an independent neurologist. If he remains symptom-free throughout the week, he could be ready for Week 11, though even minor symptoms could delay his return.
The Giants and their fans would love to have Dart back as soon as possible, and for good reason. Since taking over in Week 4, the rookie has thrown for 1,417 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 317 rushing yards and seven more scores on the ground, also currently ranked 14th on PFSN’s QB Impact Meter.
He’s given the offense some much-needed energy and spark. The Giants’ outlook for the next few weeks will likely hinge on how quickly Dart clears protocol.
We’ll know more on Wednesday when the Giants release their first practice report.
