Maada Smith Njigba and Jami Smith are the parents of 23-year-old Jaxon, and their influence began long before packed stadiums and NFL Sundays. They raised Jaxon and his brother Canaan Smith-Njigba in Rockwall, where sports were part of daily life and structure came early.
His father, Maada, brought his own football background, having played linebacker at Stephen F. Austin University. “My goal was to tire them out so when we got home, all I had to do was feed them, bathe them and put them to sleep. Then they started getting on [local] teams and I was like, ‘Oh my god, these guys are good! They can play!” JSN’s dad told Fox Sports in September 2022.
Whereas mom, Jami, stayed closely involved in her sons’ development and made sure talent was matched with opportunity, which is now paying off.
Jami is known primarily as the hands-on, ever-present mom behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the standout receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. She’s frequently characterized as a stay-at-home mother who has played a major role in supporting her son’s journey. Some corners of the internet have labeled her a social worker, but there’s no solid, verifiable evidence to back up that claim.
“I can be super petty with all of it,” Jami said in April 2023 of her son’s fans and critics. “I’m defensive. I’m Mama Bearish. I’m making a list of people who will never have an interview for [Jaxon’s] entire career. I take it very personally. As any parent would, regardless of what your kid is doing.”

As Jaxon’s ability became clear, both parents stayed active in guiding his path. During his college days, training, travel, and recruiting visits became normal, including his move to Ohio State University, where he emerged as one of college football’s top receivers.
