Bengals HC Zac Taylor Breaks Silence on Ja’Marr Chase’s Controversial Incident With Jalen Ramsey

Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor spoke up about Ja’Marr Chase's heated exchange with Pittsburgh Steelers CB Jalen Ramsey.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ Week 11 clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers was shaped as much by an on-field confrontation as by the final score. What started as a routine divisional battle quickly turned volatile when Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey exchanged words, and then actions, in a heated sequence that promptly went viral across social media.

The incident quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the NFL season, culminating in Ramsey’s ejection and, eventually, a one-game suspension for Chase.

How Did Zac Taylor Respond to Ja’Marr Chase’s Heated Exchange With Jalen Ramsey?

At the time of head coach Zac Taylor’s Monday press conference, the NFL had not yet announced formal discipline. Still, Taylor addressed the incident directly, acknowledging the seriousness of the moment while defending Chase’s character.

“I’ve always thought it was unbelievable how he’s handled himself in some really high-pressure, emotional decisions,” Taylor told reporters in attendance. “Obviously, what happened is crossing the line. We can’t have that. And I know he’ll own up to that.”

Taylor said the team had handled the matter internally and expressed confidence in Chase’s ability to grow from the experience.

“People are allowed to make a mistake,” Taylor added.

Ramsey, acquired by the Steelers in an offseason trade from the Miami Dolphins, has helped solidify a defense that ranks 17th in the league with a PFSN Defense Impact Score of 73.4. He didn’t hold back after the game.

“He spit on me,” Ramsey said. “So, it’s up. I don’t give a [expletive] about football after that, respectfully.”

Chase initially denied the accusation on Sunday. But after the video surfaced, appearing to confirm the act, he declined to speak with reporters during Monday’s availability.

Later Monday afternoon, the NFL announced a one-game suspension for Chase, citing unsportsmanlike conduct. He will reportedly appeal the decision, but, as it stands, will miss the Bengals’ upcoming game against the New England Patriots.

In his absence, Cincinnati will lean on wide receivers Tee Higgins and Andrei Iosivas to help carry the load. The Bengals currently rank 21st in the league with a PFSN Offense Impact Score of 72.4, a reflection of their struggles without quarterback Joe Burrow.

While the incident may be behind both teams, its emotional ripple effect is likely to linger. With Chase and Ramsey now set to face each other twice a year as AFC North rivals, their next meeting will carry more than just football implications. The rematch will be shaped by personal history, competitive pride, and the kind of edge that defines this division.
