Boom or bust has been the theme for many wide receivers in the NFL, and that often plays the difference in a win or loss. Two guys who fall in that category are George Pickens and Jerry Jeudy. Both of these receivers are capable of having big games and then will follow it up with a one- or two-catch performance.
With that in mind in Week 11, which one of these receivers should be in your fantasy football lineup?
Should You Start George Pickens or Jerry Jeudy This Week?
In the Pro Football Network Start/Sit Optimizer, our Consensus Rankings say that Pickens is the player to start. His projected 9.3 points include three catches and 46 receiving yards. That projected stat line barely outperforms the consensus projections of Jeudy (9.1 points).
I’m with the optimizer on this, as this feels like an opportunity for Pickens to have a big game.
Fantasy Outlook for Pickens This Week
When Pickens is at his absolute best, he is one of the most talented receivers in the NFL. While he hasn’t been at his best for much of the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense as a whole has left a lot to be desired for the fans. Despite being in the playoff and division race at 6-3, the Steelers have been outgained in every single game this year.
No other team has done that with a 6-3 record, so the Steelers are doing just enough to get the wins.
At the start of the season, Pickens was putting up awesome numbers. He has three games this year with at least 107 yards and has scored three touchdowns. However, in his last three games, he has only 67 yards on six catches. He had three catches for 45 yards against the Green Bay Packers last week.
On Sunday, the Steelers play arguably the best defense in the league in the Cleveland Browns. However, with no Deshaun Watson playing, the Browns offense figures to be less than stellar. Look for the Steelers defense to force some turnovers and give the offense a short field and for Pickens to take advantage with a touchdown.
Fantasy Outlook for Jeudy This Week
The Denver Broncos are on an impressive win streak right now, as they have won their last three games. Those wins have come against the Packers and two very good teams in the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. While that is great for the team, there hasn’t been an uptick in Jeudy’s numbers in the process.
Jeudy was able to score a touchdown against the Chiefs, but that is the only touchdown he has scored this year. Courtland Sutton is back and healthy and has become the unquestioned go-to receiver for the Broncos.
Denver has an interesting matchup this weekend as they play the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are on a similar path as the Broncos, but they have won five games in a row. Joshua Dobbs has gotten a lot of the talk, and rightfully so, but the Vikings’ defense has stepped its game up. The defense has given up only 17.4 points per game during this win streak.
The opportunity to score a touchdown is the difference here, as Pickens is much more likely to score between the two receivers.
