Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel Possibly Liable for Ethical Misconduct

One of the biggest known events in the scandal is a $2,000 resort getaway that Vrabel and Russini reportedly went on in Sedona, Arizona. Finer details around the trip are scarce, unlike the questions that keep on popping up.

NFL podcaster Tony Farmer earned a degree of fame for his deep online digs into the controversy, and he’s been asking more questions than most. He recently pondered the implications surrounding the pair’s $2,000 getaway, noting some intriguing professional ramifications.

“Who paid for the Sedona adults-only resort, that’s about $2,000 a night?” he said on 98.5 The Sports Hub. “If Dianna Russini paid for it, she’s paying her sources, which is strictly forbidden in journalism, and if Mike Vrabel paid for it, then that means he paid a Coach of the Year voter, and right after he won Coach of the Year. That’s problematic for me as well. So there are questions that need to be answered, and I don’t think this story goes away completely until he starts answering some honest questions.”

Whether the public will see answers remains to be seen. The Athletic, on its part, launched an investigation into the scandal to establish a clear narrative. Sports Hub co-host Marc Bertrand, however, isn’t convinced that the publication’s investigation will be made public, citing the reputational damages it could suffer.

“I’ll be honest,” Bertrand said. “I think there’s a zero shot we get anything from The Athletic. I don’t think they’re gonna give anything on this. They look as bad as she does because they backed her publicly in the beginning, so I don’t think you’re gonna get anything from them. I don’t think you’re gonna make her look bad because that opens themselves up to litigation from her. I don’t think they’re gonna go there.”

With a former employee possibly liable for ethical misconduct, it’s uncertain how The Athletic will handle the situation.

“I think they’re gonna do what most media members wanna do, which is ignore it and see if it goes away,” Bertrand added. “I think that’s the way they’re gonna approach it going forward. So I don’t think we’re gonna get [results]. I don’t think The Athletic will come clean with the results of their investigation. I think it’s gonna be relatively quiet there.”

Vrabel has an NFL season to prepare for, whereas Russini has a career to rebuild, and the football community will be watching closely.
