There’s some cynicism around how satisfied fans will be with The Athletic’s investigation into the scandal involving New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini. Until now, all the football community has received are leaked photos and videos of the pair spending time together. Fans are looking for answers, and they’re not patient.
NFL World Won’t Learn More About Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel Scandal via The Athletic
The Athletic launched an investigation into the scandal to establish a clear picture of the situation.
Boston radio host Marc Bertrand, however, doesn’t have high hopes that the investigation’s results will be made public. It’s mainly because the investigation is being conducted privately, The Athletic has no obligation to release its findings.
“I’ll be honest,” Bertrand said. “I think there’s a zero shot we get anything from The Athletic. I don’t think they’re gonna give anything on this. They look as bad as she does in this because they backed her publicly in the beginning, so I don’t think you’re gonna get anything from them. I don’t think they’re gonna make her look bad because that opens themselves up to litigation from her. I don’t think they’re gonna go there.”
Russini had already resigned from her position with the company before its internal review was completed, stating she refused to submit to the inquiry amid an escalating media frenzy. However, despite her resignation, The Athletic didn’t stop its investigation, as it might want to know the full details of its former employee’s involvement in anything that could further harm the company’s reputation.
“I think they’re gonna do what most media members wanna do, which is ignore it and see if it goes away,” Bertrand added. “That’s the way they’re gonna approach it going forward. So I don’t think we’re gonna get [results]. I don’t think The Athletic will come clean with the results of their investigation. I think it’s gonna be relatively quiet there.”
Whether the reporter speaks out ahead of the new season is a hot topic in NFL circles right now, as it seems to be the only way fans will truly learn more about the scandal.

“I think the only thing that can now happen is more coming from one of the two people involved, if she decides to speak or if he decides to speak more in depth,” Bertrand concluded. “That’s when I think things could change. But without that, I think someone’s gonna have to unearth something that’s really much different from what’s out there now, and I think that’s gonna be hard to do.”
Fans will, nonetheless, continue to keep a close eye on the story, especially reporter Tony Farmer’s updates.
