After a brutal loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 5 of the NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles have officially faced defeat for the first time in 2025. While entering the game 4-0, their play on the field hadn’t necessarily matched their record.
To be more specific, the offense hasn’t produced nearly as much as it has in years past, causing many to view it as a cause for concern. Well, after four weeks of barely scraping by, the Eagles have now faced the consequences of inconsistent offense.
The unit’s mediocre productivity has often been personified in the play of All-Pro receiver A.J. Brown, as he has just 194 yards and one touchdown on the season. For reference, his teammate and No. 2 receiver DeVonta Smith has 272 yards and a touchdown through five games.
This lack of success has led many fans to believe Brown would want to be traded, as he hasn’t been getting very many targets. Now, after this poor play has continued, experts agree that he could be on the move.
Brown Predicted To Be Traded to Broncos After Lack of Success Continues
A recent Sports Illustrated article listed one trade that every team should make before the deadline. One of those moves had the Broncos trading for the Eagles’ star receiver to help bolster their offense. The trade would send Brown to Denver in exchange for a third-round pick and wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr.
While the Broncos aren’t listed among PFSN’s top destinations for Brown, they do make sense as an option. Denver is led by a young, progressing quarterback in Bo Nix, and the Broncos have an incredible defense that is absolutely built for a championship.
Their offense does need some work, but adding a star like Brown could be the last piece of the puzzle to get them Denver into championship contention. Ironically, Nix is ranked right after Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in QBi, which puts him at 16th in the league. Though he got off to a slow start last season, he’s really turned things around.
Unfortunately for Brown, while the Broncos could be a better fit for him at this time, it’s practically impossible to trade him during the season, as he has nearly a $90 million dead-cap hit this year if traded within the season.
AJ Brown has a dead cap hit of $89.9M for 2025 and $49.5M for 2026.
There is legitimately a 0% chance he gets traded. Let’s not do this gimmick again. https://t.co/JEvFEi7XeF

That said, it is possible that he’s traded in the offseason, and if Philadelphia does decide to part ways with its leading receiver, Denver could be among his top destinations. Hopefully for the Eagles, however, they’ll be able to figure things out and put together another successful playoff run.
