Eagles HC Nick Sirianni Breaks Silence on Fans Calling for Philly to Bench Jalen Hurts

Eagles HC Nick Sirianni breaks his silence on fans calling for the team to bench Jalen Hurts, addressing criticism and reaffirming his QB’s role

The Philadelphia Eagles are on a troubling three-game losing streak and could lose the NFC East if these struggles continue. The primary concern during this slump has been the offense, which has scored 20 points or more only once in the past five games, prompting head coach Nick Sirianni to answer some awkward questions.

Nick Sirianni Gave a Fiery Response on Potentially Benching Jalen Hurts

The 2025 NFL season has not been ideal for the defending champs. While the Eagles are certainly outperforming last season’s Super Bowl opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs, Nick Sirianni’s team is trending in the wrong direction.

Jalen Hurts and company recorded their third straight loss Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers, with the reigning Super Bowl MVP committing a career-high five turnovers.

Hurts’ QBR has now dropped to 20th overall in the league, and his recent form led to Nick Sirianni having to defend his star quarterback on WIP Sportsradio. PFSN’s QB Impact ranking gives Hurts an 80.0 grade so far this season, which ranks 14th out of 44 qualified passers

Joe DeCamara, one of the hosts of this Philadelphia-based sports talk radio show, asked the fifth-year head coach if he is considering a quarterback change to spark the lackluster offense. Sirianni subsequently gave a definitive answer to this idea.

“I think that’s ridiculous. I know every time I go out in that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game, and that’s something that’s been proven.”

Jalen Hurts is far from the only culprit behind the Eagles’ offensive woes. Saquon Barkley and the run game have been very inconsistent, which was the unit’s identity last year under former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

The current head coach of the New Orleans Saints offense in 2024 synthesized his aggressive downfield passing philosophy with the Eagles’ existing strengths, which were primarily a dominant ground game that effectively utilized the run-pass option.

The scheme was characterized by high tempo, significant pre-snap motion, and varied personnel to create mismatches and keep defenses off balance. In contrast, the 2025 offense, under first-year coordinator Kevin Patullo, has become far more static, with less motion, fewer variations, and fewer ways to stress defenses.

That, along with regressions to the offensive line, has led to fewer clean reads for Hurts and less open space for receivers, making the star quarterback’s job more difficult. Overall, the clock is ticking on the Eagles’ season, but replacing Hurts with Tanner McKee isn’t going to right the ship.
