‘Bench Jalen Hurts’ — NFL World Reacts to Eagles Star’s Disastrous Performance vs. Chargers

The NFL fans are calling for Jalen Hurts to be benched after his disastrous performance in the loss against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Philadelphia Eagles pieced together another uninspiring, forgetful first half in Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

It was 30 minutes marred by mistakes in a game that head coach Nick Sirianni could’ve utilized as an opportunity to get his team back on track following a two-game losing streak. Instead, the Eagles left the West Coast disappointed.

NFL World Calls for Jalen Hurts’ Benching

The Chargers’ defense has kept quarterback Jalen Hurts and an offensive arsenal featuring running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver A.J. Brown in check. That’s not an easy task, but this season, the Eagles’ offense has been a far cry from what fans are used to.

At some point, there’s a certain standard in place. When that standard isn’t met, fans will grow frustrated and call for change. One of those requests has become fairly prominent on social media throughout the first half, and it’s to send Hurts to the bench.

RJ Ochoa, who covers the Dallas Cowboys, didn’t mince words with his post on X.

Another NFL analyst from Yahoo Sports suggested that Tanner McKee, the Eagles’ No. 2 quarterback, should begin warming up to enter the game.

In the first half, Hurts completed 10 of his 19 passing attempts for 95 yards and two interceptions with a 27.2 passer rating. He threw an interception on back-to-back possessions and also lost a fumble in the process.

FS1’s Kevin Wildes questioned just how much worse things can get after Hurts and the Eagles managed to turn the ball over three times on two possessions.

Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated, who covers the San Francisco 49ers, is a reasonably prominent voice on social media. He echoed the sentiment that the Eagles should take Hurts out of the game.

When Hurts and the rest of the Eagles’ offense were scrambling for the fumble, the star quarterback could’ve alleviated much of the disaster if he had just fallen on the ball as opposed to picking it up and trying to advance with it. Even Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe agrees.

“Tried 2 do 2 much after that horrible read,” he wrote on X.

The Eagles suffered a 22-19 loss in overtime against the Chargers, and are now 8-5 on the season. Hurts finished the game completing 21/40 of his throws for 240 yards, zero touchdowns, and four interceptions.

His last interception in overtime sealed the game for the Chargers, who are now 9-4 on the season, and firmly in a place to make the playoffs.

Despite all of their recent shortcomings, the Eagles are still in the driver’s seat in the NFC East. After their loss tonight, they are still 1.5 games ahead of the Dallas Cowboys. The 6-6-1 Cowboys are coming off a loss to the Detroit Lions this past week.

Hurts is literally what’s holding the Eagles back. Saw flashes of this at Alabama but Saban knew when to throw him on the bench.
