‘Drake Maye Is King-Size Version of Josh Allen’ — Ex-NFL LB Wipes Out Bills QB From MVP Race After Patriots’ Win

Drake Maye’s MVP momentum surges as one former player compares him to Josh Allen and argues the Patriots QB belongs atop the race.

The New England Patriots have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 season. They currently sit at 12-3 atop the AFC East. Much of the reason for the Patriots’ success this year has been the rapid development of second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

Former NFL Player Makes Case for Drake Maye to 2 Win MVP

New England scored a huge victory on Sunday night, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 28-24. The Patriots have secured a playoff spot, and the Sunday night victory gives them a 71% chance of winning the division, according to PFSN analytics. Given that their last two opponents are the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, it is difficult to see them not winning the division.

After Sunday night’s win, the MVP buzz surrounding Maye grew even louder. That momentum reached a new level when a former NFL linebacker went as far as comparing Maye to Josh Allen, while arguing the Patriots quarterback has done enough to knock the Bills star out of the MVP race.

On Sunday night’s episode of the “Speakeasy” podcast, Emmanuel Acho explained why Maye should be among only Matthew Stafford for the MVP conversation. He said, ” It’s Drake Maye, it’s Matthew Stafford. Then we can talk about Josh (Allen). Here’s why. The reason we want to put Josh Allen in the MVP conversation isn’t because of gaudy statistics, it’s because we always say who’s he’ doing it with.”

Acho continued, ” Well, I would say the same thing about Drake Maye. Boutte, Kyle Williams, a rookie, an older Stefon Diggs, TreVeyon Henderson, who got hurt, and Rhamondre Stevenson, a career backup. Who’s he doing it with… Drake Maye is a king-sized version of Josh Allen.”

Acho does make some excellent points. Maye has accomplished what he has this season with a roster devoid of superstar talent. Sure, Diggs is a big name, but he is a 32-year-old and was coming off a torn ACL.

Therefore, Maye being able to complete 70.9% of his passes (321 of 453) for 3,947 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions is more than impressive. According to PfSN’s QB impact metric, Maye ranks fourth among NFL QBs with an impact score of 87.3.

That said, Acho’s elimination of Allen from the MVP conversation completely is absurd. While Allen and the Bills do have a running back vying to be the league-leading rusher in James Cook, Allen still raises the team’s floor. Still, a stronger case for Maye to win the MVP this year can be made, especially since Allen won it last year in the same circumstances.
