With Bryce Young up for a contract extension, many have discussed whether the former first overall draft pick is worthy of a lucrative deal. Amid the discussion, Panthers general manager Dan Morgan offered insight into their plans for the 24-year-old signal-caller.
Panthers GM Dan Morgan Discusses Bryce Young’s Contract Extension
During the NFL’s annual league meetings just two weeks ago, Morgan sat down with NFL analyst Kay Adams to discuss the team’s offseason. Particularly when questioned about Young’s future, Morgan offered a response that many Panthers fans may find intriguing.
“We picked up his fifth-year option and you know, Bryce is definitely our future. We have a ton of belief in him. I think you can see by what we’re doing around him. We’re building around him and what he does.
“He’s just a special guy, you know, just the way he carries himself in the building every day, the leader that he’s becoming, the command that he’s taken of the offense. Like we’re super excited as he would say about him,” he continued.
Adams followed up by asking Morgan about Young’s 2025 campaign and how rewarding it is for him as a general manager and someone who has been with him throughout his NFL journey.
“I’m reaping the benefits of him playing really well. But it just shows like for somebody to get benched, come back and be as resilient as he is. I just have so much respect for who he is, not only as a football player, but as a human being. He’s a special person. So we’re lucky to have him.”
Adams closed by noting, “It sounds like a conversation of ‘if we’re gonna do a long-term,’ to a ‘when.'” When asked, “Is it fair to categorize is that way?” Morgan replied:
“I think those are things that we’re still talking through and you know, trying to figure out the timing on, but you know, again like I said, Bryce is definitely part of our future plans and he’s a big part of the future plans and we’re excited about where he’s going.”
Young has improved each season of his three-year career, with his 2025 campaign being the best to date. Across 16 starts, he passed for 3,011 yards and 23 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. According to PFSN’s NFL QB Impact Metrics, Young posted a 69.1 impact score, ranking 32nd among all QBs.

More notably, Young led Carolina to a division title and the team’s first playoff appearance since 2017. They fell to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round, but proved they could compete with one of the league’s best.
Entering the 2026 NFL season, expect Morgan and the Panthers to lock up Young long-term and retain him as their starting quarterback for the future.
