NFL Announces Cowboys Star Dak Prescott’s Place Among 5 Finalists for Seasonal Award

Dak Prescott had an incredible 2025 season, and now he's been announced as a finalist for one of the NFL's yearly awards.

Dak Prescott had a fantastic 2025 season for the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, that stellar season didn’t lead to team success, as the Cowboys missed the playoffs.

It was nice to see Prescott put forth one of his best seasons after being limited to just eight games in 2024 due to an injury. Now, Prescott has been announced as one of five finalists for a yearly award.

Which Annual Award Has Dak Prescott Been Named a Finalist For?

In 2025, Prescott threw for 4,552 yards with 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Only two quarterbacks threw for more yards than Prescott in 2025, and this was the second-highest yards total of Prescott’s career.

On Thursday, the NFL announced the finalists for yearly awards. For the AP Comeback Player of the Year Award, Prescott was selected as one of five finalists. The other players in the running are Stefon Diggs, Christian McCaffrey, Trevor Lawrence, and Aidan Hutchinson.

Prescott has a strong case, considering he only played half of a season in 2024. The quarterback threw for 1,978 yards with 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in eight games that season.

In 2025, Prescott played like a man looking to prove something. The veteran earned his fourth Pro Bowl selection and had the fourth-most touchdown passes in the league. PFSN’s QB Impact ranking gave Prescott an 83.4 overall grade for his 2025 performance, which ranked 7th out of 48 qualified passers.

Prescott is now hoping to add another award to his resume. The quarterback has already won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in his career.

The winners of all awards will be announced at the NFL Honors show on Thursday, February 5. Actor Jon Hamm will be hosting the ceremony.

Prescott Hoping to Get Back to Playoffs in 2026

The 2025 season has to be considered a massive disappointment for the Cowboys. The team fired head coach Mike McCarthy after missing the playoffs in 2024, so the goal was clearly to return to the postseason in 2025.

Instead, the team finished with just seven wins again. Prescott and the offense weren’t the problem, though, as PFSN’s Offense Impact ranking gave the unit an 84.8 overall grade. The defense, meanwhile, earned a league-worst 62.1 grade from PFSN’s Defense Impact ranking.

Fixing the defense will obviously be a priority for the Cowboys this offseason. If the unit can even be average, the Cowboys should have a great shot at getting back to the postseason.
