Cowboys Predicted to Select 21-TD RB With ‘Dynamic Running Style’ in 2026 NFL Draft to Help Dak Prescott

After failing to rebuild the running back room this offseason, one analyst wants that to be the Dallas Cowboys first priority in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Dallas Cowboys had a ton of roster issues that needed fixing this offseason. While they did address some of them, the biggest problem continues to haunt the franchise. Since letting Tony Pollard walk, the team hasn’t had a consistent threat for defenses to worry about on the ground. As a result, their focus is solely on Dak Prescott, limiting his production, which, in turn, limits the Cowboys as a whole.

This offseason, Dallas did not do a good enough job of remaking its running back room. While it added veterans like Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, neither of them has been electric over the last few seasons. It remains to be seen how Jaydon Blue works out for them. However, one analyst believes a better choice for the franchise would be to add a legitimate threat on the ground in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Will the Dallas Cowboys Finally Fix Their Running Back Mess?

Brentley Weissman of PFSN made it clear. “The Cowboys’ current running back group is arguably the weakest in the NFL.” For that reason alone, they need to prioritize adding a legitimate weapon in the running back room.

After being heavily pegged as a landing spot for Ashton Jeanty in 2025, Dallas could finally add a difference-maker in 2026. It is necessary for a team that has functioned best with a talented running back sharing some of the load with Prescott.

“Historically, the team performs best when they establish a strong run game and physical presence, enabling Dak Prescott to succeed with play-action.” Prescott’s most productive years have come with his running group averaging over four yards per carry.

Barring the unknown with Blue, the Williams-Sanders combo hasn’t averaged those numbers since 2022. As a result, the offense for the Cowboys could be in serious trouble this year.

The latest mock draft from PFSN believes it could be bad enough that they miss the playoffs entirely. As a result, they have the franchise drafting with the 12th overall pick, with Jeremiyah Love out of Notre Dame their pick.

Last season, he exploded out of the games for the Fighting Irish, tallying 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Add in his versatility as a pass catcher, and he was able to add a couple of touchdowns and 237 yards through the air as well.

“Jeremiyah Love is by far the top running back in his class, and he is projected to be a Heisman finalist this fall after another impressive season. His dynamic running style is characterized by a potent combination of power, vision, and breakaway speed.”

For a team that needs help in the backfield, there isn’t a better prospect on the market or in the upcoming draft. If they struggle like Weissman believes they will in 2025, Jerry Jones might not have any choice but to add a player like Love to the roster.
