Commanders Predicted As Landing Spot for 4-Time Pro Bowl WR To Replace Deebo Samuel Sr.

The Washington Commanders are predicted as a potential free agent landing spot for four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs.

After nearly a month of free agency, the 5–12 Washington Commanders have yet to add a true offensive playmaker. However, with the NFL Draft approaching, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver has emerged as a potential replacement for Deebo Samuel Sr., one who could help the unit regain its 2024 form.

Commanders Predicted To Land Star Free Agent WR

On April 8, PFSN’s Alex Kennedy published a piece outlining the top 12 remaining free agents, along with potential destinations for each of them.

Among the available pass-catching options, veterans Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, and Samuel, the former Commander, headlined the list.

Kennedy began by setting the stage for Diggs, noting, “Stefon Diggs got released by the New England Patriots a week before free agency, and he is still unsigned in April. There are certainly some red flags when it comes to Diggs, particularly off the field.”

“But on the field, Diggs is still playing at an extremely high level. He finished fourth in the NFL in PFSN’s WR Impact Score despite coming off a torn ACL, finishing the season with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns. He played a big role in Drake Maye’s MVP-runner-up campaign, yet the Patriots ultimately decided to move on and sign Romeo Doubs instead.”

Following his case, Kennedy named the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, and most notably, the Washington Commanders as strong fits for Diggs. The departure of Samuel, especially, makes Washington a team to monitor in this situation.

While Samuel was the least of the Commanders’ issues this past season, the offense took a significant step back from its 2024 performance. According to PFSN’s offense impact metrics, the unit posted an 78.1 impact score (11th overall) in 2025, down from 84.0 (6th) in 2024.

Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler and seven-time 1,000+ yard WR, would be added to a receiving room that currently features Terry McLaurin, Dyami Brown, Luke McCaffrey, and recent tight end signing Chig Okonkwo.

Together, Diggs and McLaurin would form one of the most dangerous wide receiver duos in the entire NFL. Both are high-level route runners, are elite at the catch-point, and can operate at every level of the field.

Soon-to-be third-year signal-caller Jayden Daniels had an injury-riddled sophomore campaign, but could quickly bounce back if given the right surrounding talent. Between these three, along with the No. 7th pick in the upcoming NFL draft, and a potentially much-improved defense, the Commanders could return to playoff contention in 2026.

Lastly, regarding Samuel, if he doesn’t return to Washington this offseason, Kennedy believes the Colts, Raiders, and Dolphins all profile as potential landing spots. Heading into his 8th NFL season, he can still provide value to any organization as a versatile “Swiss Army knife.”
