The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran tight end George Kittle to a staggering four-year, $76.4 million contract extension, sending waves across the NFL. The franchise made massive statement by keeping the 31-year-old around, making him the highest-paid tight end in the league.
Christian McCaffrey’s Father on George Kittle Extension: ‘Win-Win-Win’
Kittle first announced the news on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast hosted by former NFL players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton. The deal guarantees Kittle $40 million, including a $35 million signing bonus and an additional $5 million in 2027. The NFL world has been flooded with divided reactions, but one Niners fan, who has a pretty close bond with the team, made his view clear.
49ers running back Christian McCaffrey’s father, Ed McCaffrey, is thrilled the Niners locked in Kittle. “Awesome! Win-Win-Win For George, the Niners, & #FTTB,” Ed tweeted in light of Kittle’s contract extension, hyping up his son’s tight end duo.

McCaffrey and Kittle’s RB-TE duo has been a cornerstone in the 49ers’ offense. McCaffrey’s exceptional receiving ability out of the backfield and dynamic running style work in sync with Kittle’s elite receiving and blocking skills, making them versatile threats that defenses struggle to defend. They share targets, often becoming quarterback Brock Purdy’s primary reads in key situations, and consistently rack up yards after the catch.
With this contract extension, the 49ers underlined their faith in Kittle’s athletic abilities, squashing any doubts that come with turning 30 years old in the NFL. The signing follows Kittle missing the team’s first voluntary workout last week, a move that signaled he might have been holding out until a deal was done.
Those concerns faded when Kittle was spotted at the training facility Friday, signaling that negotiations had taken a positive turn.
“George’s leadership, enthusiasm for the game, for his teammates, and the Faithful are truly unique and special,” Niners GM John Lynch wrote in a statement.
“He is an outstanding representation for the 49ers on the field and is an outstanding representative for the organization off the field with his investment in the local and military communities. He has a great sense of pride in his role and has put in the work to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL.”
Kittle’s new contract will run through 2029, adding four more years to his previous deal.
