Earlier today, the Miami Dolphins cut wide receiver Tyreek Hill, a move that surprised many across the NFL. Now that Hill is a free agent, the talk has transitioned to which team the 31-year-old wideout will join. One familiar voice believes that home should be Kansas City.
Could Hill Return to the Chiefs
Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, who has been in Kansas City since 2016, kept his message simple when the idea of a reunion surfaced.
“@cheetah it’s ⏰,” Jones posted.
It is not hard to understand why that thought is gaining traction. Kansas City’s offense, long defined by its explosiveness, looked unusually bland at times this past season. Patrick Mahomes masked many of the issues early, but as the season unfolded, the lack of a true game-breaking presence on the outside became more noticeable.
Hill and Mahomes once formed the most electric quarterback-receiver pairing in football. During their four full seasons together, Hill recorded four 1,000-yard campaigns in Kansas City and helped deliver a Super Bowl title. Defensive coordinators had to account for his speed on every snap, which opened the middle of the field for Travis Kelce and created space for Andy Reid’s creative concepts.

After being traded to Miami, Hill elevated his game even further. In 2023, he produced the best season of his career with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, leading the NFL in yardage. He also finished as the top-ranked receiver in PFSN’s WR Impact metric that season and placed second in Offensive Player of the Year voting.
This past season, Mahomes had a pretty solid year despite Kansas City’s tough Super Bowl hangover season. Per the PFSN NFL QB Impact Metric, the quarterback finished with a 77 (C+) score. In addition, he threw 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the season before going down with a torn ACL.
And with the Chiefs struggling on offense, the Dolphins haven’t done much better.
Per the PFSN NFL Offense Impact Metric, the Dolphins ranked No. 19 overall with a 73 impact score during the 2025 regular season. Miami finished 7-10 and missed the playoffs, leading to the firing of head coach Mike McDaniel.

In 2024, Miami’s instability at quarterback limited his production, and he failed to reach 1,000 yards. Then, in 2025, his year ended abruptly after a gruesome Week 4 injury against the New York Jets in primetime.
In four games, Hill recorded 21 receptions for 265 yards and 1 touchdown. In the PFSN NFL WR Impact Metric, his best week came against the New England Patriots. He was graded with a C+ and an impact score of 79.9 after catching 6 passes for 109 yards.
Hill already understands Reid’s system and has built chemistry with Mahomes. If he can regain even close to his 2023 form for another season or two, the Chiefs’ offense would instantly look different.
There are legitimate concerns. Hill is older. He is coming off a major injury, and the contract would need to reflect that reality. But one thing is for sure: even the thought of Hill reuniting with the Chiefs is interesting.
