Kansas City Chiefs News, March 18: Free Agency Fits, L’Jarius Sneed Trade Rumors, and More

Here's the latest news involving the Kansas City Chiefs, including free agency fits and the latest trade rumors regarding L'Jarius Sneed.

It has been a successful start to free agency for the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. They were able to extend defensive tackle Chris Jones to a mammoth contract while landing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency.

Here is the latest news regarding the Chiefs.

When free agency started, the Chiefs were expected to secure their own talent and add some playmakers for Patrick Mahomes. By extending Jones and adding Brown, Kansas City is on pace for an excellent free agency, but the Super Bowl champs still have positions that need to be addressed.

Free Agency Fits Include Xavien Howard, Alexander Mattison, and Donovan Smith

Pro Football Network’s Nick Pedone broke down the best free agent picks for the Chiefs.

Pedone suggests a veteran cornerback like Xavien Howard to replace L’Jarius Sneed, should he be traded, would be a good move.

Howard has played 100 NFL games in eight seasons with the Miami Dolphins and proved to be one of the league’s more dependable corners.

Additionally, Alexander Mattison could be a solid backup for Isiah Pacheco while bringing back Donovan Smith would help ensure Mahomes stays protected.

    L’Jarius Sneed Trade Rumors

Kansas City cornerback L’Jarius Sneed remains on the trade block, as he has yet to agree to a contract extension with the back-to-back Super Bowl champions.

Recent trade rumblings involving a potential deal with the Colts were quickly dispelled though, as Stephen Holder of ESPN reported that there was no trade in place between Indianapolis and Kansas City for Sneed as of March 16.

Indianapolis, the Tennessee Titans, and other NFL clubs will continue to see if an agreement can be reached on a contract extension. While compensation in a trade with the Chiefs seems to be figured out, a deal will not be made unless Sneed signs a long-term deal. Otherwise, he’s expected to spend next season in Kansas City.

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce To Open Steakhouse in Kansas City

Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are planning to open a new restaurant in Kansas City next year.

On Thursday, restaurant group Noble 33 announced a partnership with the Super Bowl champions to launch a “modern American steakhouse” called 1587 Prime, named for Mahomes’ and Kelce’s jersey numbers. The steakhouse is scheduled to open at the Loews Hotel in Kansas City in early 2025.

“Travis and I have become frequent visitors of Noble 33 restaurants in other cities, so it only made sense to bring something special to our own community in Kansas City,” Mahomes said in a press release.
