‘We Are Screwed’ — Chiefs Fans Panic After GM Brett Veach’s Lack of Activity Before Trade Deadline

As the 2025 NFL trade deadline approaches its 4 p.m. ET close today, teams across the league are scrambling to make last-minute deals. The 5-4 Kansas City Chiefs, however, have remained conspicuously quiet. That silence from general manager Brett Veach has sent many fans into a panic, fearing the former Super Bowl champions have not done enough to stay competitive.

Where Do the Kansas City Chiefs Need To Upgrade At the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline?

While the Chiefs hold a 5-4 record, the team has fared well in most metrics on both sides of the ball. According to PFSN’s Offensive Impact Rating, Kansas City is ranked third with an 87.5 score, while its defense is ranked a decent ninth on the Defensive Impact Rating with an 80.1 score.

Still, the roster has clear needs at running back and along the defensive line. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported that Kansas City could explore adding depth at both spots: a running back to complement Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt, and another defensive lineman, despite recently re-signing veteran Mike Pennel.

As the deadline ticked closer, Chiefs fans flooded X (formerly Twitter) with a mix of panic and sarcasm over Veach’s silence, even as other teams were heavily involved in rumors.

“I actually might tweak out if Brett Veach doesn’t make a move in the next four hours — we are screwed,” said another fan.

“Brett Veach please… I am literally begging you to do something,” one fan wrote, while another joked, “Brett Veach’s trade deadline move was bringing back Pennel.”

Dozens of others echoed the same frustration, with some sharing memes of Veach, “Brett Veach is playing scrabble somewhere watching all this happen,” and others pleading with tweets like, “WAKE UP BRETT VEACH.”

“Outside of drafting good every other year, what does Brett Veach do well? I need a serious answer,” one fan wondered.

One fan even wrote, “Brett veach. brett veach if you can hear me. you are the kansas city chiefs gm. did you know that brett. its seeming like your not aware.”

This anxiety is understandable. Kansas City is currently sitting in third place in the AFC West, behind the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs are just outside the playoff picture and have a crucial stretch of games lined up after the bye week, so it is no surprise that fans are restless with just hours left before the deadline.
