Shane Beamer and his South Carolina football program continue to make offseason changes after a 4-8 season in 2025. The Gamecocks have already brought in changes in their coaching staff to ensure a promising run in 2026.
Shane Beamer Adjusts Coaching Staff After Big-Payout Coordinator Leaves and Former QB Joins
South Carolina Special Teams Coordinator Joe DeCamillis is joining the Las Vegas Raiders in the same role, according to Tom Pelissero. He was brought on in Jan. 2024 with a three-year deal worth $800,000 and also held the title of associate head coach under Beamer during his tenure with the Gamecocks.
DeCamillis became part of Beamer’s staff following Pete Lembo’s departure to take the head coaching job at Buffalo. He managed a completely overhauled special teams unit for South Carolina during the 2025 season and earned a Broyles Award nomination.
The Gamecocks will now be searching for their third special teams coordinator under Beamer. It will be interesting to see who Beamer hires as South Carolina approaches Spring Practice.
DeCamillis previously spent the 2023 season with the Texas Longhorns. With Steve Sarkisian’s program, he used to share ideas and analysis of their special teams units with special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks.
Before his stints at South Carolina and Texas, DeCamillis spent 31 years coaching Special Teams in the NFL, including roles as coordinator for the Broncos, Bears, Cowboys, Rams, Giants, Falcons, and Jaguars. His career began in 1991 as an administrative assistant under his father-in-law, Dan Reeves, in Denver.

Meanwhile, Beamer’s staff witnessed another coaching change on Sunday, as former South Carolina quarterback/wide receiver Luke Doty officially joined the staff in Columbia. He was added to the defensive coaching staff, specifically working with the Secondary. Former South Carolina All-American Jaylan Foster continues on Beamer’s staff as a defensive backs assistant.
Doty signed at South Carolina in the 2020 recruiting class as a four-star recruit. He played in 48 games over six seasons, recording 1,696 passing yards for 9 touchdowns and 9 interceptions as a quarterback while also having 193 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. As a wide receiver, he recorded 16 receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown.
Doty will work with the South Carolina secondary under defensive coordinator Clayton White and defensive backs coach/co-defensive coordinator Torrian Gray. He joins a Gamecocks defense that finished last season with an 84.3 rating in the PFSN’s CFB Defense Impact Metric.
Under the latest NCAA rules, Doty and other offseason assistant hires will have significant roles on staff but will not serve as off-campus recruiters.
