Ole Miss received a massive boost ahead of its highly anticipated College Football Playoff showdown against Georgia, as star running back Kewan Lacy has been listed as probable for the rematch with the Bulldogs. The update is welcome news for the Rebels, who are looking to extend their CFP run and secure revenge in their second meeting with Georgia this season.
Lacy injured his shoulder during Ole Miss’ Dec. 20 win over Tulane, exiting twice and sitting out the second half as a precaution. With him now trending toward full availability, the Rebels’ offensive outlook gets a major boost.
Kewan Lacy the Underrated Star in the SEC
Despite national attention often landing elsewhere, Lacy has quietly put together one of the most impressive seasons in college football. He has been a major driver behind Ole Miss’ elite offensive production, which PFSN grades at 85.2, the 13th-best mark in the country.
Alongside fellow running back Trinidad Chambliss, Lacy forms one of the most dangerous backfield tandems in the nation.
Ole Miss ranks top 10 nationally in team rushing touchdowns, with Lacy accounting for a significant share of that success. His individual PFSN running back grade of 90.1 ranks seventh nationally, underscoring just how impactful he has been throughout the season.
Georgia’s Defense is Stout
Ole Miss will need Lacy at his best against a Georgia defense that has been elite against the run all season. The Bulldogs rank top five nationally in rushing yards allowed, giving up just 1,030 yards on the ground. Breaking through that front seven will be a challenge, but Lacy’s vision, power, and nose for the end zone give the Rebels a fighting chance.
In the first matchup between these two teams, Lacy was held to just 31 rushing yards, but he still found the end zone twice, highlighting his ability to make a difference even when yardage is hard to come by.

A transfer from Missouri, Lacy has already etched his name into Ole Miss history. His 21 rushing touchdowns set a new single-season school record, and his 1,366 rushing yards place him seventh nationally. He is also just 201 yards away from breaking Quinshon Judkins’ program record of 1,567 rushing yards set in 2022.
With a chance to make history, fuel a deep CFP run, and help Ole Miss avenge an earlier loss, Lacy’s availability could be the defining storyline of the Rebels’ season. If he’s anywhere close to full strength, Georgia will have its hands full.
