Colorado quarterback Kaidon Salter returned to the lineup in Week 4 and powered the Buffaloes to a 37-20 win over Wyoming. Salter delivered three touchdown passes and added a rushing score to seal the victory, helping Colorado improve to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in Big 12 play.
The performance came after a rough loss to Houston, when Ryan Staub stepped in at quarterback. Calling it his “last ride,” Salter reclaimed QB1 status as Deion Sanders addressed Colorado’s shifting rotation, featuring Staub and freshman Julian Lewis, while the program searches for Shedeur Sanders’ replacement.
Colorado QB Kaidon Salter Makes ‘Last Ride’ Statement; Sanders Details Adjustment
In a video shared by Well Off Media, Salter gave a candid look at his mindset heading into the Wyoming matchup.
“Everybody know I had a long journey. Also, uh this my last ride. Just want to know let y’all know that I’m for sure playing for y’all,” he said.
Salter added,
“The coaching style, the opportunity that I’m blessed to have to still be playing this… playing what I love to do. But I’m playing for everybody in this room tomorrow. And I’m ready to go out there and do what I got to do.”
A transfer from Liberty, Salter opened the season as the starter for Colorado’s first two games but was replaced before regaining the role. His return against Wyoming proved decisive.
He connected on three long scoring throws, hitting Omarion Miller on a 29-yard strike, Sincere Brown for 68 yards, and Joseph Williams for a 47-yard touchdown. Salter also showcased his mobility, further balancing the offense and delivering the spark the Buffaloes needed in the 37-20 victory.
Head coach Deion Sanders praised the junior quarterback for showing both poise and conviction.
“Certainty. If you’re gonna run, run. If you’re gonna throw, throw. Certainty not I don’t know what I’m gonna do, running with a confidence like I’m running, not running… He made up his mind to do what he needed to do, and he did it. Like whatever the Bible says, whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might,” Sanders said.
The coach went further, pointing to Salter’s renewed approach as a potential example for the entire roster.
“And we’re hoping that we have a consistency and not just Kaiden, but everyone do it with everything you’ve got. And I think you just seen a kid just hit another switch and say, I got to get this together and I got to play up to my ability,” he added.
Colorado, now 2-2 overall, prepares to host No. 25 BYU on September 27 at Folsom Field. The game kicks off at 10:15 p.m. ET on ESPN, with Salter’s consistency central to the Buffaloes’ pursuit of their first Big 12 win.
