The college football world continues to boil, and the tampering allegations keep on flying. Now, Pete Golding has issued a strong warning to expose others if the NCAA penalizes Ole Miss.
How the College Football World Reacted to Pete Golding’s Tampering Warning
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney accused Golding of blatantly tampering with linebacker Luke Ferrelli. In his defense, Golding opened a counterfire.
He said, “I’m not going to sit up here and say whatever we did or we didn’t do, was it right or was it wrong? But, you know, when you go through what we went through (with tampering), and what you’re seeing day-in and day-out, some things you feel like shouldn’t matter that they’re making a big deal about.”
In addition, On3’s Pete Nakos revealed that sources said Golding was “willing to take down competitors” if the Rebels were hit with penalties. The reactions on social media were immediate.
High Top Sports’ David Soderquist commented, “The off-season battles between Ole Miss and LSU might be more entertaining than the upcoming matchup.”
USA Today’s Blake Toppmeyer responded, “Let him burn it down then. If Golding has receipts of other coaches cheating, show the receipts. Otherwise, this is bluster. Every coach pretends they don’t want tampering. Well, the only way to curtail tampering is thru rules enforcement.”
Brooks Austin wrote, “Better defense: Golding’s: “I may or may not have tampered but I’ll rat on every one if you get me” OR Sorsby’s: “I was just gambling to be closer to the boys because I wasn’t playing””
Clemson Addict’s X handle said, ““Your honor, I know I broke the law by stealing that car. But someone stole my car so that justifies what I did” I swear Dabo is the only coach with any moral backbone in today’s age. And it’s going to be his undoing bc he refuses to cheat. What a coward of a response. & he is suppose to be mentoring and leading young men.”
On3’s Ari Wasserman noted, “Estimation of how many minutes of sleep Pete Golding has lost over this tampering situation: 0”
Ultimately, Golding’s comments highlight a deeply fractured sport where coaches are terrified of losing their stars, collectives dictate the depth charts, and the governing bodies remain powerless. But in the court of public opinion, threatening to expose the truth while hiding behind a curtain of anonymity won’t win you any favors.
Currently, PFSN’s CFB Playoff Meter gives the Rebels a 44.8% chance to make the College Football Playoff.
