‘Bill Belichick Cheats on Everything’ — CFB World Erupts As UNC Faces NIL Probe Amid Michael Lombardi Drama

The college football world went crazy as UNC is being investigated for potential NIL compliance issues on top of their GM being placed on leave.

The University of North Carolina football program has had quite the Monday. To start the day, they placed their general manager, Mike Lombardi, on paid administrative leave after a former employee filed an HR complaint. Now, they’re under investigation by the College Sports Commission for potential NIL compliance issues. With Bill Belichick’s shady history of scandals in the NFL, the college football world took to social media to react to the news.

CFB World Reacts to New UNC Investigation

The college football world is ripping into Belichick and UNC after the program was investigated for potential NIL violations. Investigative journalist Pablo Torre released information on the probe on Monday afternoon.

“In addition to the Mike Lombardi HR matter, the University of North Carolina football team is also being investigated by the College Sports Commission — the entity which handles compliance and enforcement of NCAA and NIL rules,” said Torre.

Torre revealed that Lombardi’s leave wasn’t the only drama UNC would face on Monday. The CFB world poked fun at Torre’s feelings for Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, as one social media account claimed he reported the story because he disliked Hudson.

“Pretty funny you did all this because you hated Bill’s gf,” said fantasy football creator Kevin.

The Belichick era in Chapel Hill has been far from successful. Despite Belichick being an eight-time Super Bowl champ, he led the Tar Heels to only 4 wins in 2025. A tenure that hasn’t turned out well is looking even worse. Some are calling for Belichick’s job and hoping that this potential scandal could be an out for the Tar Heels on Belichick’s contract.

“Hopefully they will find evidence to fire Bill for cause,” said one UNC social media personality.

“Bill cheats on everything,” said Christian Robert, a user on X.

Michael Hurley joked about the situation and said, “My advice to any and all sports writers covering the UNC football program: Get ready to learn legalese, buddy.”

The Tar Heels’ hires of Belichick and Lombardi look like major mistakes right now, and one user took the chance to bring up Lombardi’s resume. Lombardi hasn’t stuck around in one place for very long, except for one stint with the Raiders.

“Lombardi gets fired from every job after a year or two like clockwork,” wrote the user on X.

Others in the college football world aimed their anger at UNC rather than just Belichick or Lombardi.

“I’ve been saying UNC is a shady institution. I don’t think many are surprised by this,” said one social media personality.

The Tar Heels don’t need more distractions with the college football season about a month away from kicking off. But they’ll have them with this new NIL probe alongside Lombardi being on leave. Only time will tell if Belichick can right the ship in his second year at the helm, or the college football world will get another chance to laugh at the UNC football program.
