Deion Sanders Gets Emotional Over Gift from Gerthart and Jari Lewis

Colorado coach Sanders recently shared a heartfelt video on X after receiving a hand-carved wooden stick from Gerthart and Jari Lewis. Sanders referred to them as his “favorite cousins” while thanking them for a gift that clearly carried personal meaning.

“Thank You SO Much to my Favorite Cousins Gerthart & Jari Lewis. I Love y’all to Life and this brother can FISH, Hunt, Cook & everything else under the sun,” Sanders wrote.

The video gave fans a closer look at Sanders’ reaction as he spoke directly to Gerthart. He appeared genuinely touched by the gesture and emphasized his appreciation several times.

“Gerthart, my man, I appreciate you. I love you to life, my man. I really do,” Sanders said. He then brought up something Jari had previously told him during their time in Texas, joking about his relationship with Gerthart.

“So you would be my cousin-in-law? Well, you’re the number one cousin-in-law ever, man,” Sanders said.

Sanders then turned his attention back to the gift, making it clear that the craftsmanship and thought behind it had caught his attention. His reaction became even more personal as he explained how much the gesture had affected him.

“This is off the chain. I can’t wait to get my step in, you know,” Sanders said before expressing his gratitude again. “You have no idea how much this blessed me, man. I appreciate this. God bless you.”

The moment arrived at a busy point for Sanders, who is preparing for his fourth season at Colorado. After the Buffaloes finished 3-9 in 2025, Sanders reshaped the roster with 43 transfer additions while looking for a much better result in 2026.
