The Arizona Cardinals started the season with two wins but have lost every game since. The Cardinals have dropped five straight by a combined 13 points, leading in the fourth quarter of each one.
The defense has kept things competitive, but the offense has struggled to find consistency, with the run game emerging as one of the most disappointing units. With the trade deadline approaching, one analyst believes Arizona could look to make a major splash by targeting a high-impact running back to replace James Conner and jump-start the offense.
Cardinals Predicted To Acquire Jets Star RB
The Cardinals’ offense currently ranks 23rd in PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric, and no player on the roster has eclipsed 200 rushing yards this season. Quarterback Kyler Murray, who has missed the last two games, leads the team with 173 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Arizona entered the year with Conner as its starting running back, but he suffered a season-ending injury after just three games. Second-year RB Trey Benson stepped in, but he has also missed more than a month with a knee injury, leaving the Cardinals scrambling for answers in the backfield.
They may find that answer at the trade deadline with PFSN’s Jacob Infante floating Jets running back Breece Hall as a potential target.
“One could certainly argue that the Arizona Cardinals are better off selling. In the long run, that might be right. But, sitting at 2-5 with Jonathan Gannon’s job as head coach in jeopardy if they fail to bounce out of their five-game losing streak, the current regime may feel inclined to make a move or two to try and turn things around,” Infante wrote.
“Breece Hall is in the last year of his rookie deal for an abysmal Jets team, making him one of the more popular names at the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline. With James Conner out for the season, the Cardinals could look to upgrade their backfield by bringing in Hall, who’s currently eighth in the NFL in rushing yards,” he added.
Hall is coming off arguably his best performance since 2023, having rushed for a season-high 133 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Bengals. It was a reminder of his explosiveness and playmaking ability, and perhaps a boost to his trade value at just the right time.
The 24-year-old has done everything in his power to keep the Jets competitive, but it’s far more than a one-man job. Through eight games this season, he has rushed for 581 yards and two touchdowns, ranking fifth in PFSN’s RB Impact metric. He’s also added 21 receptions for 178 yards, showcasing his versatility and star-level production despite inconsistent support. In total, he has found the end zone 24 times in his young career.
New York is reportedly seeking a Day 2 pick for Hall, and for the struggling Cardinals, the cost may be justified. Hall is in the final year of his rookie deal, giving Arizona flexibility: if concerns about long-term durability arise, they could move on in 2026 and return to Conner as the starter.
