Cam Skattebo Injury Update: Latest on Giants Star After Devastating Moment in Week 8 vs. Eagles

In the Week 8 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants suffered a brutal blow in the form of Cam Skattebo.

The season just got infinitely worse for the New York Giants. What felt like a true turn of the page on a franchise that had spent close to a decade in mediocrity has hit an ugly wall. With the arrival of Jaxson Dart, it seemed like things were finally looking up for the franchise.

However, soon after his arrival, the team lost Malik Nabers for the season. But the situation got worse as they faced the Philadelphia Eagles in a divisional matchup in Week 8. This time, it was fan favorite running back Cam Skattebo, and the blow was uncomfortable to even look at.

What Happened to Cam Skattebo?

After making his mark on the league and the fans in New York almost immediately, Skattebo had been drawing rave reviews for his rugged style. However, that style came at a cost, as his playstyle always seemed risky.

But when they faced the Eagles in an away game, no one could have predicted the season that would unfold. Already off to a nice start, he was trying to help his team tie the score midway through the second quarter.

However, as he tried to act as a pas catcher, his foot got stuck on the field and his ankle bent completely backwards. As players looked on horrified, the most reasonable estimate had to be that his 2025 season was over.

He was carted off the field on a stretcher as he tried to give a thumbs-up to the onlooking crowd. The blow comes at the worst possible time for a Giants team that seemed to finally be finding its footing under a new quarterback.

Skattebo was among their most reliable weapons, adding 398 yards in the six games that he’d been properly utilized, while scoring five touchdowns. Last time out against Philadelphia was when he truly had his coming-out party.

In that game at MetLife Stadium, he added 98 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. For the year, he ranked 21st on PFSN’s RB Impact, ahead of established names like Kenneth Walker III and Alvin Kamara.

Prior to the injury, Cam Skattebo had 55+ rushing yards in five straight games, matching the longest such streak by a rookie Giant in the 2000s (Barkley, 2018)

Skattebo’s Injury Impact on Fantasy

Skattebo was one of the best stories of the season. Such is life in the NFL in 2025. We can’t have nice things. With Skattebo’s season certainly over, Tyrone Tracy Jr. steps back into the RB1 role.

While obviously nowhere near as productive as Skattebo has been, Tracy is certainly on the fantasy radar as an RB3/Flex play. He will be a priority pickup ahead of Week 9. Devin Singletary steps back into the RB2 role. He is worth rostering in deeper leagues.

Tracy has dealt with injuries in his young career. If he were to go down, Singletary would be a near every-down back.
