NFL Legend Deion Sanders Sued ‘In Excess of $75,000’ in Federal Court in Separate Lawsuit From Son, Shilo

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders faces legal troubles amidst lawsuit regarding his use of the Prime21 logo in his branding.

Deion Sanders is one of the most recognizable names and faces in the history of collegiate and NFL football. The Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback is also the current head coach at Colorado and has two sons who entered the NFL after the 2024 collegiate season: Shedeur and Shilo Sanders.

While the larger-than-life personality is known for his play on the field and his persona, he has also become a brand in and of himself. However, a revelation of an older court case signals that Sanders is dealing with matters unrelated to football.

Deion Sanders Facing Lawsuit from a Graphic Designer

“Deion Sanders is being sued in federal court by a graphic designer over use of the prime21 logo,” said Tony Farmer in a post on “X.” His post included a full account of the lawsuit, dated January 29, 2025.

The lawsuit states that the plaintiff is seeking “an amount in excess of $75,000, as well as pre- and post- judgment interest, the cost of this action, and any further relief as this Court deems equitable and just.”

Sanders was already dealing with legal issues involving his son Shilo, which could serve as a distraction for the Colorado head coach. This lawsuit, which, to the public record, isn’t resolved yet, adds to the things he is dealing with in his personal life off the field, while he also juggles his business endeavors, particularly with Prime Time Enterprises.

According to the complaint, Alan Tipp, the plaintiff, created a pair of logos for Sanders and his brand. The complaint alleges that Sanders and his representation ‘asked Tipp to sign a work-for-hire agreement’ wherein Tipp would relinquish all past, present, and future rights he held in the Works.”

Sanders has built his entire brand on his nickname, Prime Time, which he earned during his playing career. He has since used this name in conjunction with his business, Prime Time Enterprises, his documentary series “Coach Prime,” and more.

During his post-playing career, he has built his own brand with merch and has used Tipp’s graphic designs as part of that branding. This is now being claimed as unauthorized by Tipp and his legal team, who are seeking reparations.

It is unclear how much of this report is substantiated, as the court case has not yet been resolved. Still, the legal troubles are not an ideal scenario for Sanders to be facing, particularly right before the start of the collegiate season.

This court case will be worth monitoring as more details emerge. Colorado and Sanders will hope for a speedy resolution so he can direct his full attention back to their upcoming season, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 3-9 campaign in 2025.
