The Tennessee Titans are having the type of season many expected. They had a 3-14 record last season, allowing them to select quarterback Cam Ward first overall. Unfortunately, Ward and company have gone through many growing pains this season, with a 1-7 record and the head coach, Brian Callahan, already fired.
Ward has not developed as many would like through the first eight games, but some of that is due to his supporting cast, or lack thereof. One player the Titans were counting on for his season was wide receiver Calvin Ridley. But he has had a disastrous season. Ridley has only played in six games and has not been productive. He has caught 16 passes for 290 yards in those games. Ridley has missed the last two games, and his status for Week 9 remains uncertain.
Will the Titans Risk Bringing Ridley Back Too Soon from Injury in Week 9?
The Titans seem to be playing it close to the vest about the availability of Ridley. Hamstring injuries can be tough, and the Titans will not want to rush him back. After missing two games, his availability for Sunday will largely depend on his ability to practice. If Ridley can practice to some extent this week, he will have a chance to play. If not, he will likely be held out again.
Unfortunately, he did not practice on Thursday, and there’s a high possibility Ridley will not play this week.
Also, the Titans may be looking to trade Ridley, as the trade deadline is approaching. Outside of helping Ward develop, there is no reason for the Titans to hold onto Ridley. He is 30 years old and often injured, which is not the type of player they want to build their offense or receiving corps around.
Could a Trade Be the Best Move for Both Ridley and the Titans?
Someone on X suggested the New England Patriots could be a possible designation for Ridley. The Patriots are 6-2 and right in the thick of things in the AFC. They do not have much of a second option outside of Stefon Diggs.
If Ridley is healthy enough to play, it makes sense that teams would be interested. According to Spotrac, his contract allows for a potential out after this season.
Ridley has a PFSN WR Impact Score of 70.9 this season, 54th in the NFL. He might not be having a good season so far, but a change of scenery would only help him.
