The Cleveland Browns’ offense has been abysmal in 2025. While the quarterback play from Joe Flacco and now Dillon Gabriel has been spotty at best, the wide receiver room hasn’t done them any favors.
With the trade deadline approaching, one analyst urged Cleveland to move on from backup rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders in a trade for one of the league’s top receivers.
Could the Browns Trade Shedeur Sanders for a Star Wide Receiver?
It’s no secret that the Browns need more weapons to support Gabriel. Through seven games, Cleveland’s offense ranks 31st in the league according to PFSN’s OFFi metric, while its top wide receiver, Jerry Jeudy, sits 79th among NFL wideouts in PFSN’s WRi metric.
As the November 4 trade deadline approaches, it makes sense for the Browns to pursue a receiver. Cleveland radio host Anthony Lima urged the team to make a move for superstar Garrett Wilson in a predicted trade with the New York Jets.
How could the Browns trade for Wilson? Lima believes including Sanders in the package could close the deal, saying he expects Wilson to be a better NFL player over the next five years.
“Yeah, I trust a lot more that Garrett Wilson is going to be good in this league over the next five years, three years, than Shedeur Sanders,” Lima said. “So yeah, I’m throwing a pick, I’m throwing Shedeur Sanders.”
🚨Hypothetical trade🚨

The interesting part of Lima’s mock trade is that he assumes the Jets would even consider it, which is highly unlikely. Wilson has established himself as one of the few reliable players on New York’s offense, and the Browns would likely have to give up far more than a draft pick and Sanders to acquire him.
The Jets had five rounds to select Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft and passed each time, so trading Wilson for a player who’s never taken an NFL snap doesn’t make much sense, even for a team as dysfunctional as them.

Beyond not making sense for the Jets, the trade also doesn’t work for Cleveland. The Browns have already moved two quarterbacks this season, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, and the organization wouldn’t consider leaving Gabriel without a reliable backup.
Additionally, with the Browns unlikely to make the playoffs this year, giving up valuable draft capital along with Sanders would be a risky and unwise move for Cleveland’s front office.
While trades are always hard to predict, Lima’s proposed deal feels like something that would only happen in EA Sports’ “Madden” and isn’t something either side would realistically pursue.
