‘Don’t Think He’s The Guy’ — Browns Reporter Reveals ‘Calls Are Being Made’ On Shedeur Sanders’ Trade Availability

Will Shedeur Sanders still be with the Browns by the time camp rolls around in July? One reporter thinks that the quarterback could be traded,

The Cleveland Browns currently have four quarterbacks on their roster, including Shedeur Sanders. Alongside Sanders, Cleveland has fellow second-year quarterback Dillon Gabriel, veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson, and rookie Taylen Green.

The Browns have had a tough time finding a reliable starter since the departure of Baker Mayfield, but could one of these guys be the stabilizer?

Browns Reporter Believes Shedeur Sanders’ Time With Browns Is Ticking

Since 2022, the Browns have had four different quarterbacks serve as the team’s leading passer. In 2021, it was Baker Mayfield; in 2022, Jacoby Brissett; in 2023, Joe Flacco; and in 2024, Jameis Winston.

Cleveland’s leading quarterback last season was Sanders. However, a Browns reporter doesn’t think the former Colorado Buffalo is the guy to stay in Cleveland.

“There are talks (and) ongoing calls about the availability of Shedeur Sanders. The Browns, for whatever reason, don’t think he’s the guy. That’s my opinion,” ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Rizzo said Monday morning. “And I’m sure they’ll say, ‘What are you talking about? He’s in a quarterback battle.'”

“But I’m gonna say, right now for the record, I don’t think the four quarterbacks are going to camp on July 28,” He added. “I don’t. Nothing is imminent, but the calls are being made. And I think it’s probably in the best interest of both parties here.”

The Browns have had one winning season since 2020 and had 12 consecutive losing seasons before that.

Joe Flacco and Mayfield are the only quarterbacks in the last 18 years to lead Cleveland to the playoffs. Now, the Browns have a trio of young signal callers along with Watson, who brings plenty of experience but hasn’t played since 2024.

After Gabriel got reps early in 2025, Sanders took over for the final seven games of the season and went 3-4. The rookie quarterback threw for 1,400 yards with a 56.6% completion percentage and threw 7 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.

According to PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, Sanders posted an impact score of 56.7, ranking third-worst in the league. Despite the lackluster statistical performance, he was named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement.

However, Rizzo has now revealed the Browns are taking calls about Sanders, which means they are at least listening to offers. If Sanders was locked in as the starter or was winning the battle for the position, Cleveland probably wouldn’t be taking calls.

Four quarterbacks would be a lot to take into camp in July, but the Browns also need to find an answer at the position, so more prospects mean more opportunities. However, that also means fewer reps for each guy.

After trading Myles Garrett to Los Angeles this offseason, it’s obvious the Browns are continuing to rebuild and have decided to get as much future draft capital as they can.

Now, it’s time for Cleveland to figure out its quarterback position.
