Bills Urged To ‘Cut Keon Coleman’ Amid Rising Concerns Around WR’s Future in Buffalo

A former Bills' executive came after Keon Coleman with a call for the Bills to reconsider his future with the team after another disciplinary issue.

The Buffalo Bills benched Keon Coleman for Week 11 for being late to a team meeting. He is no stranger to being disciplined by the team, as this is his third time being punished by the Bills. He hasn’t been the dominant force on the field, either. Now, former Bills director of player personnel, Jim Monos, has made his stance clear on what Coleman’s future should look like in Buffalo.

Keon Coleman’s Future in Buffalo

It’s hard to imagine the Bills would get rid of Coleman after selecting him with the No. 33 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Monos thinks they should, though. He’s not living up to expectations and is causing distractions that the team has to deal with.

“They should just cut Keon Coleman. It would be one of the ultimate messages sent,” said Monos on the Go Long TD Podcast. “They just had their best, that game was so sick on offense. They don’t need Keon Coleman. That was against a real defense, too. Tampa is a big-time defense.”

The Bills made a statement after dropping a dud against the Buccaneers. Josh Allen did his best Superman impression with six touchdowns, three passing and three rushing. Allen’s opening drive looked uncharacteristically off with an interception, but the rest of the game was an offensive clinic. It didn’t matter who was catching passes; Allen was finding the open man, whether it was Tyrell Shavers or RBs James Cook and Ty Johnson.

The Bills didn’t miss Coleman that much. Monos thinks the way to send a message to the team, and especially to Coleman, is by getting rid of him. Coleman, as a young player in the NFL, showed up late to obligations, which rubbed Monos the wrong way. Bills have tried to make this experiment work, but with disciplinary issues and only 330 yards to show for his on-field play, Coleman’s future could look murky if he doesn’t turn it around.

“You can’t even walk through the locker room and look those guys in the eye. You’re not showing up on time as a rookie? You’re joining an elite football team. You should be so fortunate you were drafted by the Buffalo Bills,” said Monos. “You get to play with a generational quarterback. Late to a meeting? Cut. There is no way you should let him on your team. That’s so disrespectful to Josh Allen.”

The Bills know that Coleman has to shape up. OT Dion Dawkins defended Coleman from media scrutiny, but acknowledged that Coleman has to figure it out and grow up. As of now, the Bills are behind Coleman and are hoping he can be a big contributor in the stretch run.

According to reports, the Bills are likely to bench Coleman again, and he will not play in Week 12 against the Houston Texans.

Coleman ranks 55th in PFSN’s WR Impact score with an impact score of 72.2. This falls short of the league average of 74.4. Beyond his disciplinary issues, his play isn’t up to the standard. The Bills have Josh Allen, so they should be fine, but Coleman and the other weapons have to step up if they want to achieve their Super Bowl aspirations.

They have to keep putting pressure on the division-leading New England Patriots. That starts with a victory against the shorthanded Texans on Thursday Night Football. Fans should get ready for some fireworks because the Bills will take on one of the NFL’s top offenses against one of the league’s best defenses in Houston.
