Over the past month, the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal has been the talk of the entire NFL world. Both sides have faced a ton of backlash as the controversy has transcended sports and become mainstream news.
While new photos and information seems to surface daily, there is still plenty that we don’t know. Veteran NFL insider Mike Florio believes Russini is the wild card who could reveal everything and potentially lead to some negative repercussions for Vrabel.

Since the pictures from Arizona first went public, the story has spread like wildfire. From resurfaced interview moments and suspicious old posts on X, to tampering allegations and even an alleged Spotify playlist, the saga has featured plenty of twists and turns. And the more intrigued the internet is, the more they dig up.
As a result, both parties have faced a ton of backlash. Russini resigned from The Athletic, while Vrabel stepped away from the New England Patriots on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft to enter counseling, and he has talked about having some “difficult conversations” with his family and people throughout the Patriots organization.
However, the consequences for Vrabel could ratchet up in the coming months if Russini goes public with her story. So far, the NFL insider has remained quiet. After initially rejecting the Arizona photos as mere happenstance, she resigned from The Athletic with a letter explaining her decision, but she has not given any interviews or opened up about the scandal in any way.
Meanwhile, the Patriots head coach has held two press conferences and essentially confirmed the alleged relationship, prompting some former NFL players to say that he threw Russini under the bus.
Now, Mike Florio of NBC Sports believes Russini speaking out could be how this story ultimately escalates further.
“No one knows what, if anything, she’ll say,” Florio wrote. “No one will know where she’ll say it. Surely, multiple outlets are already trying to get the interview. Maybe she’ll write a book. Maybe there will be a documentary.”
Going a step further, he believed her comments could lead to serious consequences for Vrabel as well.
“However it happens, that’s the biggest unknown piece in all of this. Depending on what she says (if she says anything), it could reshuffle the deck in a way that complicates Vrabel’s situation to the point at which it’s not possible to continue,” Florio wrote, noting that prediction markets are currently taking bets on whether Vrabel will resign (with 23% of bets on yes).
It remains to be seen if Russini will tell all. So far, she has remained mum on the matter even as it become the biggest story in all of sports.
If she does reveal the details, things could get worse for Vrabel. For now, the Patriots are supporting him and the NFL has said that they won’t investigate the scandal since they are treating it as a personal matter. However, depending on what Russini says, perhaps things could change.
