Running back Alvin Kamara wants to finish his career with the New Orleans Saints. Despite a rough 1-4 start and plenty of teams calling about a potential trade, the Saints star made it clear he’s staying put. When GM Mickey Loomis asked if he’d consider leaving, Kamara’s answer was simple: no.
Will Alvin Kamara Get Traded Before the Deadline?
NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport broke the news that Kamara delivered a direct message to Saints GM Mickey Loomis about his future.
“Sources say Kamara told Saints general manager Mickey Loomis that he’d like to remain with the franchise through the rest of his career,” Rapoport reported.
The conversation happened after the Saints started getting calls from other teams. Loomis handled it the right way, going straight to Kamara to keep him in the loop. No secrets, no rumors flying around behind his back.
“Loomis approached Kamara in a proactive way when the team was getting calls about his potential availability. Loomis wanted to treat one of the faces of the franchise the right way,” Rapoport said.
#Saints RB Alvin Kamara has been the subject of trade calls, but his stance was made clear — He doesn’t want to go anywhere.

Loomis laid it all out. Other teams wanted him. The question was simple: Would you like to go?
“Loomis informed the homegrown player of interest elsewhere and wanted to be transparent. The question was simply: Would you want to go? Kamara expressed his preference to stay in New Orleans, the team that selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft,” Rapoport added.
Kamara’s answer settled it. He’s staying with the team that drafted him in 2017.
What Teams Wanted to Trade for Kamara?
Multiple contenders contacted New Orleans about Kamara before the November 4 deadline. The Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, and Minnesota Vikings all showed interest. The Kansas City Chiefs were projected as a top landing spot where Kamara could help Patrick Mahomes and a struggling backfield.
The interest makes sense. Through five games, Kamara has posted 283 rushing yards on 73 carries with 77 receiving yards on 17 catches.
PFSN’s RB Impact metric ranked him 22nd nationally, earning a C with a 76.3 RB Impact Score through Week 5. His versatility as a dual-threat back still holds value for teams chasing a championship.
But trading him creates serious cap complications for New Orleans. The Saints would save minimal money in 2025 while taking a massive dead money hit in 2026. That math only works if a team offers premium draft compensation, which never materialized.
The Saints have a bigger issue brewing in their backfield anyway. Kamara’s snap rate dropped from 85% in Week 1 to 53% in Week 5 as Kendre Miller‘s workload climbed from 15% to 39%. The two backs now split touches almost evenly. That’s New Orleans preparing for life after Kamara, even if that transition happens in 2026 instead of now.
The New Orleans Saints have the 25th-ranked offense in PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric and have the 24th-ranked defense in PFSN’s Defensive Impact metric.
An ankle injury has Kamara listed as questionable for Week 6, though he’s expected to play against New England. His contract runs through 2026 after he signed a two-year, $24.5 million extension in October 2024. Over nine seasons, he’s piled up five Pro Bowls, two Second-Team All-Pro selections, and became the franchise’s all-time leading rusher in 2024.
Kamara’s loyalty means the Saints keep their veteran presence for another season. But with New Orleans at 1-4 and Miller’s role expanding, the clock is ticking on the Kamara era either way.
