Aaron Rodgers had been estranged from his family for nearly a decade. However, on Monday, the future Hall of Fame quarterback revealed he has finally reconciled with them.
Ian O’Connor Reveals How Steelers Star Reconciled With His Family
Rodgers posted on Instagram on Monday night, sharing a five-slide post of himself spending time with his parents and family. He added the caption, “Another bonding week. #fam.”
Ian O’Connor, a columnist at The Athletic and author of Rodgers’ 2024 biography, “Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers,” explained Tuesday how the reconciliation came to be.
“On Aaron Rodgers & his family, they had been working towards reconciliation for a while,” O’Connor wrote. “Rodgers invited parents Ed & Darla to his Pleasant Valley High School Hall of Fame induction in April & introduced them to the crowd to applause, thanked them for their support.”
“In my book, Rodgers spoke of embracing his father at the Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament in 2023 and expressing their love for each other and called it ‘a special moment,’ first time they had contact in nearly 9 years. That opened the door,” O’Connor added. “At the time Rodgers called a reconciliation ‘definitely possible’ and a matter of timing. The timing was right last night for the Steelers quarterback to make it public with his photos on Instagram.”
O’Connor continued, “Rodgers’ juco coach, Craig Rigsbee, was among the longtime friends who encouraged him to reunite with his family. Aaron praised Rigsbee at the PV induction ceremony for the impact he’s had on his life.”

This summer, Rodgers has seemingly made an effort to spend more time with family, friends, and even teammates. Just one week ago, he posted a photo on Instagram alongside DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Pat Freiermuth, and several other teammates.

Back in May, Rodgers signed a one-year, $25 million deal to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Shortly afterward, the 42-year-old quarterback announced that the 2026 season would be his final year in the NFL.
Looking back on his legendary career, Rodgers has been selected to 10 Pro Bowls, earned four First-Team All-Pro selections, won four NFL MVP awards, and was honored Super Bowl MVP after leading the Green Bay Packers to a victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl 45.
At this stage of his career, Rodgers is no longer the MVP-level player he once was, as evidenced by his 71.9 Impact Score (No. 29) in PFN’s QB Impact Rankings. Still, given his leadership, arm talent, football IQ, and a strong supporting cast, the Steelers should once again be in the mix to compete for the AFC North title.
As for Rodgers and his family, it’s heartwarming to see them reunited. They will hopefully continue to build on their relationship and spend more time together once Rodgers officially hangs up his cleats.
