The Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel controversy has been one of the biggest storylines of the 2026 offseason.
What started with Russini and Vrabel being spotted together at a resort in Sedona, Arizona, in April quickly escalated. It led to the former NFL reporter resigning from her job at The Athletic, which paid nearly $800,000 a year, and to Vrabel missing Day 3 of the NFL Draft to seek counseling.
While many people thought we had reached the controversy’s end after The Athletic released its investigation findings earlier this week, that might not be entirely true.
Podcaster Hints at Another Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel Story
The Athletic began an investigation into Russini after her snaps with Vrabel from a resort went viral, followed by revelations over the next few months about their alleged relationship, including that they rented a boat together while Russini was pregnant.
Days after the report, Tony Farmer highlighted a segment of Albert Breer’s conversation on the “Toucher & Hardy” podcast.
“You guys saw the numbers on YouTube and on the podcast, and I saw the numbers at SI, like, there’s just, for one reason or another, there’s intense interest in this story,” Breer said. “You know, I think as long as there’s that intense interest in the story, people are going to be pursuing it.”

Breer concluded by saying, “So like, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a story next week before the game on Wednesday.”
Reacting to the audio of Breer making his prediction on what’s next for the Russini, Vrabel story, Farmer wrote:
“Buckle up: A new Dianna Russini article dropping before Wednesdays Patriots – Seahawks game? Listen as 98.5 radio personality suggests that a Patriots ‘(expletive) storm’ may be imminent. Bert Breer also says it wouldn’t surprise him if an article dropped before the Pats’ Week 1 game.”

In the report published by The Athletic, the publication stated that while Russini’s alleged relationship with Vrabel was a clear violation of its standards, it also cleared her name, saying none of her reporting indicated any bias toward the Patriots’ head coach or the franchise.
“Most of what Russini wrote about Vrabel or the Patriots was transactional and newsy,” the report by Mike Semel read. “In addition, I’ve not found a clear link to conclude that Russini used her platform to promote Vrabel or help his teams during her time at The Athletic.”
While Russini didn’t give an interview on the situation, she told The Athletic’s Sr. Writer Andrew Marchand that she stands by all the reporting she has ever done in her career.
