The tennis world has been abuzz of late with the warm camaraderie between British tennis hope Emma Raducanu and Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz.
The duo has been on amicable terms since 2021, but speculations of a relationship started online after Alcaraz revealed that he had requested Raducanu to team up with him for the revamped US Open Mixed Doubles tournament
The new format at the event will see top singles players compete alongside doubles specialists for the trophy. It will take place on Aug. 19 and 20, 2025, during the US Open Fan Week at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Raducanu shed more light on her partnership with Alcaraz while addressing social media rumours of a relationship.
What Emma Raducanu Has Disclosed About Her Partnership With Carlos Alcaraz
Raducanu, the 2022 US Open singles champion, revealed to the BBC that she was “surprised” when Alcaraz asked her to be his partner. Raducanu did go through the “formality” of asking her coach, but “of course” she was going to say “yes,” she told the interviewer.
The British star has also revealed that she is aware of the online gossip surrounding her rapport with Alcaraz. Many online commenters have suggested that the duo is fated to be in a relationship.
“I’m glad the internet is having fun,” she said, “and we’re providing entertainment to everyone.”

Raducanu revealed that she first started getting to know the Spaniard at the Wimbledon championships in 2021, when both were new to their respective tours.
Last week, the Brit was spotted watching Alcaraz compete in the semifinal of the HSBC Championships in London. Alcaraz, who won the Wimbledon tune-up event, has suggested that he, too, might enjoy an upcoming Raducanu match at the WTA Tournament in Eastbourne or Wimbledon.
At the same event, Raducanu lost her quarter-final match against Zheng Qinwen of China.
What Carlos Alcaraz Has Said About Making a Special Request to Be Paired With Emma Raducanu:
The pairing of Raducanu, one of the most marketable names in tennis, and five-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz has triggered massive excitement ahead of the highly anticipated US Open championships. The tournament will also feature the participation of other top singles stars, including Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Iga Swiatek.
Upon being asked about his desire to be partnered with Raducanu, Alcaraz said, “I was thinking that I couldn’t play better if it wasn’t with Emma. I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request.”
The Spanish World No. 2 has revealed that he is “super excited” to participate in the US Open Mixed Doubles championship.

Contradiction in what actually happened. She said he asked her earlier on in the year. But it is being reported only this week that he asked just last week. So what is it?
