Outspoken Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud has been one of the most discussed players in the WNBA following her confrontation with former NBA player and aspiring WNBA player Enes Kanter last week.
Cloud recently shared her thoughts on the controversial incident, following the Sky’s decision to ban Kanter from coming to Sky home games.
Natasha Cloud Calls For WNBA to Ban Enes Kanter
Cloud credits Sky owner Michael Alter for banning Kanter, but believe that should be the first step in larger action. She said, “Michael goes out and band and that’s immediate action. We’re asking for protection and that’s what protection looks like from a man. I hope the WNBA follows their lead as well.”

Alter announced Kanter was banned from Wintrust Arena after the incident with Cloud, citing his behavior as a security threat. While Alter believes Kanter has the right to express his beliefs, he was critical of Kanter’s actions, believing he attended the game with the goal of getting attention instead of being a fan.
The interaction between Cloud and Kanter was the latest controversy as the league deals with the topic of transgender athletes in women’s sports. Kanter attended the Sky vs Indiana Fever game wearing a shirt that depicts the definition of a woman as a human female.
Critics of Kanter like Cloud believe the topic isn’t urgent in the WNBA because a transgender athlete has never played in the league. However, Fever forward Sophie Cunningham essentially brought the issue to the forefront after publicly supporting a ban of transgender athletes in women’s sports.
The WNBA says only women are allowed to play in the league, but Kanter and others believe there should be stronger language in the guidelines.
As a result, Kanter and fellow former NBA player Royce White declared for next year’s WNBA Draft and said they should be eligible because they identify as women.
The league recently declared both players ineligible to play in the WNBA, and Cloud believes further actions should be on the horizon. Cloud believes Kanter is irrelevant and distracting from real issues happening in society.
While Cloud hopes the WNBA will ban Kanter, Kanter is reportedly weighing his legal options for his next move. White was also recently photographed attending a Fever game as well.
The WNBA announced they’ll have further conversations regarding transgender athletes, however, Cloud believes banning Kanter should be the priority.
