Caitlin Clark is the most divisive MVP candidate in the WNBA this season. She’s in firm competition against the likes of Olivia Miles and A’ja Wilson, and depending on which analyst a fan were to ask, they’d prop up any one of these three depending on the kind of night they had.
Skip Bayless heaped praise on Clark following her performance on Friday, irking the WNBA world in the process.

Bayless lauded Clark following the Indiana Fever’s win over the Connecticut Sun on Friday. He wrote, “Caitlin Clark is the best player in the WNBA.”

This came after Clark dropped 34 points and 12 assists in a 111-91 win over the Connecticut Sun. This win propelled the Fever back to fourth place in the standings, leapfrogging the Atlanta Dream.
The stat line also marked Clark’s second straight 30+ point, 10+ assist game (37 points and 10 assists against the Sky).
Upon hearing Bayless prop up Clark and place her in her own tier in the uppermost echelon of WNBA superstars, fans online went off.
One user suggested that Kelsey Mitchell is better than Clark, saying, “Caitlin Clark is not even the best player on her team.”

Another user said, “Skip please stop the click baiting, she is not even the best player on her team. She is very good, but have you forgotten about A’ja Wilson. The one that just balls out and doesn’t cry about every call.”
Wilson is currently the MVP frontrunner as she’s averaging 26 points and 9.4 rebounds a night on 52.3% shooting from the field.
Another fan echoed a similar sentiment, saying, “A’ja Wilson leads the league in scoring THIS SEASON, has 3 WNBA championships, 4 MVPS, 2 finals MVPS, 3 DPOYS. And also won an NCAA Natl Championship and a Naismith.”

One fan was very blunt in their assessment of Bayless as they said, “As if A’ja Wilson doesn’t exist. I need white men who just started watching women’s basketball to shut the [expletive] up.”

“Being called the best player while repeatedly shrinking vs the best players. Never in my life have I seen the kind of sports discourse that happens with Caitlin. It’s an insult to women’s sports. In other sports, you usually have to prove yourself vs the best. Disgusting,” said one irate fan who decided to go directly at Clark’s supposed deficiencies.
Bayles isn’t the only public figure to root for Clark.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III took to his social media after Clark’s performance against the Sun to share a view similar to Bayless’s, pointing out how absurd CC’s stats have been this year.
“Caitlin Clark should win the WNBA MVP. 1st Woman EVER in WNBA history to have back-to-back 30 point and 10 assist games. 6 career games of 30+ points and 10+ assists. The rest of the WNBA has 4 in league history. Only Woman EVER to have 800 points and 300 assists in a season.”
At this point, with the Fever behind both the Lynx and the Aces in record, Clark’s chances to win the league MVP this year are slim in comparison to Wilson. As for the ‘best player in the world’ argument? This is fairly subjective.
A player’s greatness rests in the eyes of the beholder and what they value out of a player. Clark is certainly one of the best players in the world. The debate on whether she’s number one is a fun one that fans can indulge in at the barbershop ad nauseam.
