Training camp is supposed to be physical, but things can quickly become a talking point when teammates get into a heated exchange. That happened at the New York Giants’ practice session after reports surfaced that running back Cam Skattebo was involved in an altercation.
The report drew a strong response from one of Skattebo’s teammates, who pushed back against the idea that the incident was a major problem inside the Giants’ locker room.
Giants Teammate Defends Cam Skattebo
According to New York Daily News Giants beat writer Pat Leonard, Skattebo’s aggressive style led to a confrontation during a non-contact portion of practice.
Leonard reported: “Cam Skattebo started a fight in practice today. He slid down after a reception and came dangerously close to taking out a couple Giants DBs’ legs. The defense isn’t allowed to hit. Jevon Holland and Greg Newsome did not appreciate it.
“The situation escalated between Skattebo and Newsome. Skattebo has had it coming. He ran over linebacker Zaire Barnes the other day, too, when the defense wasn’t hitting.”
The report suggested Skattebo’s physical approach was beginning to frustrate some of his defensive teammates.
However, Giants offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor quickly pushed back against the narrative. He defended Skattebo on social media, writing: “Stop trying to create a BS narrative.”

Eluemunor’s response suggested that the incident may not have been viewed inside the locker room as seriously as it appeared from the outside.
Skattebo has become known for his energy and physical style, which is bound to help the Giants. He was also a fan favorite as a rookie, rushing for 410 yards and five touchdowns while making 24 catches for two more scores before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8.
However, the Giants will want him to rein in that aggression during practice, especially in non-contact drills.

John Harbaugh Wants to Channel Cam Skattebo’s Energy
Giants head coach John Harbaugh also addressed Skattebo’s approach and acknowledged the impact of his energy on the team.
Harbaugh wants that intensity to benefit the Giants rather than create unnecessary problems. “Yeah, it’s infectious. It can be infectious the other way, an infectious disease type of thing. We want it to be in a positive way,” Harbaugh said.
As the Giants prepare for their final preseason test against the New York Jets on Friday, August 28, the coaching staff faces the task of channeling Skattebo’s aggressive style without risking internal chemistry or costly flags.
For now, his teammate’s response makes it clear that not everyone inside the Giants organization believes the practice incident deserves the attention it has received.
