The NFL is ending the Pro Bowl games, and the sports world is reacting exactly how you would expect.
The Pro Bowl has lost its meaning over the last decade with the lack of competitiveness in the games and players being named as alternatives who quite simply did not have seasons deserving of being honored in that way.
With years of viewership plummeting, the league has finally decided to stop trying more and more tweaks and to just go with the games.

Whether it was tweaking the rules of the Pro Bowl, expanding it into a week-long event, or even trying to entice viewers and players with a flag football game, none of the above options were enough to save the Pro Bowl Games.
The NFL is finally getting rid of the celebratory game after years of criticism and decreased viewership. Instead, there will be no Pro Bowl alternates, and the players selected will be honored, just without a game.
With the news dropping on Wednesday, analysts across the country pitched in their reactions.

“No Pro Bowl games is fine. Every league is struggling to come up with an answer for these All-Star games,” Alex Kozor, a Pittsburgh Steelers blog writer, wrote on X. “The no alternate thing is the most impactful thing of all. I’m happy with both.”

“It’s about time. Should actually make the ‘Pro Bowl’ honor mean more, without 500 alternates every year,” Patriots radio host Alex Barth said.

The consensus is obvious: Analysts across the country are more than fine with the Pro Bowl Games going away, and one of the largest reasons, outside of the lack of competitiveness, is the alternate selections.
As Fornelli noted, Sanders made the Pro Bowl last season. While the Cleveland Browns’ rookie turned the team around a bit, his numbers were nowhere near Pro Bowl-worthy. He had more interceptions than touchdown passes.
According to PFN’s QB Impact Metric, Sanders posted an impact score of 63.0, ranking second-worst in the league.
Now, the Pro Bowl field will remain limited to the best players in the game, and those selected will be honored as they should be.
