The New York Jets are heading into another NFL season with low expectations, as they have been for a while. The Jets haven’t been able to find the right quarterback in forever, and that has been the main factor in their struggles. They’ve also had a lot of coaches, none of whom have turned the Jets into a competitive team. Last season, they hired Aaron Glenn, who they hoped would be the one to turn the franchise around.
Instead, Glenn found himself in the hot seat in his first season. The Jets played poorly, finishing 3-14, and have little optimism entering the 2026 season. Glenn struggled as a head coach and did not become a favorite with the media either. He developed a tough persona with the media, and that is one thing he regretted from last season. Entering the 2026 season, Glenn expects to do better as a coach and with the media.
Chris Simms Gives Blunt Advice to Aaron Glenn
Part of an NFL head coach’s job is talking to the media every week; it helps if the coach has a good relationship with them, because that can influence how they cover him. We have seen many coaches with a “prickly” attitude toward the media, but that’s usually after they’ve done a ton of winning. Glenn has not gotten to that point yet, which is why he regrets how he treated the media.
In a segment on “Pro Football Talk,” former NFL quarterback Chris Simms spoke about Glenn and said, “He was there with the Jets and Bill Parcells. He saw prickly work with Bill Parcells. But as we know, Bill wasn’t prickly when he started with the Giants right away. Bill Belichick wasn’t real prickly when he started right away with the New England Patriots.”
“You got to win and do some things first before you can become the prickly, salty old man, right?” Simms added. “You got to do that. That is part of that… I think he might have lost his way of his true self a little last year, thinking he had to be a certain way to be the head coach of the Jets. ”

Glenn came across as arrogant last season, and with how much his team was losing, it was a bad look. That is one of his many regrets from last season.
According to The Athletic, Glenn regretted how he treated the media last season. He said, “Another mistake. Because I came in and I was already pissed at something else, had nothing to do with the media. And then I started to think, man, take it out, these guys and gals, and for what? They had nothing to do with this here. That was a mistake.”

It seems Glenn learned a lot from his first year as head coach. He should be much better for the lumps he took in year one, and it will be interesting to see how his improvements as a coach can help his team.
According to PFN’s Defense Impact Metric, the Jets posted an impact score of 59.7 last season, ranking third-worst in the league. On the offense, according to PFN’s Offense Impact Metric, they ranked in the same place (30th) with an impact score of 62.5.

The Jets are not expected to be competitive in 2026, but they could certainly be better than a 3-14 team.
