The Texas A&M Aggies roared out to a 9-0 start to their 2025 season, but a near Week 11 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks could have altered their trajectory.
What Are the Chances of Texas A&M Making the SEC Championship Game?
Could one conference loss really have knocked the Aggies out of SEC contention? Yeah, it just means more. Entering the contest, their SECCG odds were at 58.2%, according to the PFSN College Football Playoff Meter (FPM). With a loss, those odds would’ve fallen to a paltry 11.1% (they are currently at 69.9% thanks to the win).
The Aggies’ offense has scored 30+ in all but one game and ranked 21st in PFSN’s College Offense Impact score prior to Week 11. Yet, the defense has been even more impressive beyond the box score, ranking 11th-best in the country heading into the bout against South Carolina.
Despite star QB Marcel Reed throwing two interceptions (which could’ve been even more), the defense conceding 30+ points for just the third time this year, and a near-game-losing fumble at the goal line late in the fourth quarter, Elko’s squad did something unimaginable.
The Aggies have trailed for just 31:08 minutes this season. The Gamecocks held the lead for 23:43 by halftime. According to the broadcast, since 2004, SEC teams who trailed by 27+ at any point in the contest held a 0-286 record. Thanks to Reed and Co.’s heroics, that record now sits at 1-286.
Now 10-0 on the year, what can we expect from Texas A&M down the stretch, and what is their path toward the College Football Playoff?

Had South Carolina won, it would’ve marked back-to-back years that they severely altered the trajectory of Texas A&M’s season, as they knocked them off last year despite the Aggies entering as the No. 10-ranked team in the nation and as favorites.

As mentioned, with a loss, Texas A&M’s odds of making the conference title match would’ve been slim. But it could’ve gotten even worse. If Alabama (vs. No. 11 Oklahoma) and Georgia (vs. No. 10 Texas) won their SEC bouts, Texas A&M’s championship hopes would’ve fallen to just over 0%.
Nevertheless, the Aggies’ title hopes largely remain in their hands. Samford should prove to be a nice late-season get-right game, just in time to finish the year off against in-state rival Texas, a program that holds a massive 77-37-5 series advantage over them.
