TCU found itself at the center of a troubling locker room incident on the eve of the 2026 season after Horned Frogs wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma was allegedly attacked by his teammate, Jacob Fields, in the locker room.
While the severity of Ezukanma’s injuries immediately made the incident concerning, questions surrounding how his injury was handled afterward have added more controversy to the turn of events.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram, Fields allegedly punched and kicked Ezukanma in the head during a confrontation inside the locker room.
The alleged assault left Ezukanma dealing with serious injuries, including a brain bleed and a concussion.
The affidavit indicated that Fields was upset over Ezukanma performing better than him during practice, which contributed to the alleged confrontation. However, concerns grew beyond the reported assault itself after it emerged that Ezukanma did not reach the emergency room for nearly two hours following the incident, according to the Star-Telegram.
“The assault occurred about 1:30 p.m., according to the affidavit,” the report read. “Talley drove Ezukanma to the hospital about 3:12 p.m. after seeing the team doctor. At the hospital, Ezukanma was given an urgent CT scan, and the ER doctor read the results stating it was a brain bleed.”
Following the altercation, TCU dismissed Fields from the program. The Star-Telegram initially reported on the incident after speaking with a source close to Fields. However, the situation took another controversial turn when TCU Athletics informed the newspaper that the reporter’s credentials had been withdrawn indefinitely.

With additional details about the alleged locker room attack and the handling of Ezukanma’s injury emerging, TCU faced a wave of criticism from college football reporters.

During an interview with the TCU Police Department, Ezukanma reportedly told investigators that he lost consciousness following the alleged assault.
The arrest warrant affidavit detailed the extent of his injuries, which reportedly included a brain bleed, a concussion and a strained AC joint in his shoulder. Ezukanma was admitted to the hospital on Aug. 13 and remained there until he was released on Aug. 16.
The altercation also brought an unfortunate end to what had been expected to be an important chapter in Fields’ TCU career.
Fields arrived at TCU on the back of an impressive season at Louisiana Tech, where he was named the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
TCU is viewed as having legitimate postseason aspirations, with the PFN CFB Playoff Meter projecting the Horned Frogs with a 4.9% chance of reaching the College Football Playoff this season. Fields was expected to play a meaningful role in those ambitions, but the incident has now dramatically changed the trajectory of his career.
