Terry McLaurin has had a frustrating 2025 NFL season with the Washington Commanders so far. He was forced to miss four games this year due to a quad injury, and after returning last week, he is again dealing with the same issue.
Terry McLaurin Injury Update
McLaurin initially injured his quad in a Week 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He was then forced to miss the Commanders’ next four games as he recovered, but he made his return last week against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
He was unable to get through the full game before re-injuring his quad, which required medical attention on the sidelines. Just days later, it was announced that he has officially been ruled out for Week 9 when they take on the Seattle Seahawks in another primetime game.
According to head coach Dan Quinn, it’s “too early to predict” how long McLaurin will be out this time around. He said that for now, he will not play in Week 9, but beyond that is yet to be determined. The Commanders have not placed him on the injured reserve list as of Sunday, so it’s possible that they are expecting a shorter absence this time around than the four games he already missed previously this season.
The star wide receiver has totaled 13 receptions on 21 targets for 203 receiving yards this year as he continues to battle through his quad injury. He also scored his first touchdown of the season last week and appeared to be trending back in the right direction, so the re-injury is even more devastating.

In his absence, Deebo Samuel is expected to fill in as the primary passing target for quarterback Jayden Daniels. They acquired him during the offseason to add depth to their wide receivers, but his role has been expanded by McLaurin’s health issues. He has been relatively solid with his new team, currently ranking as the 33rd overall player in his position on PFSN’s Impact Rankings this year.
With injuries to players like Austin Ekeler, Jayden Daniels, and Terry McLaurin, the Commanders have a record of 3-6 heading into Week 10. They will play the Detroit Lions today, and it would not be a surprise if the NFC North team comes away with a blowout win against Washington.
Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders’ quarterback in Daniels’ absence, and based on PFSN’s QB Impact metric, he is the 28th-ranked quarterback in the league this season.
